Upgrading my PC Windows 10 Question?.

I am not building a new PC just thinking about upgrading the Motherboard, PSU & GPU of my present one. I noticed while pricing components in regard to this that Windows11 was almost £140, As I am very happy with my Win10 install and not particularly bothered about Win11 could I not just use my present Win10 OEM disk?.

It's most likely that even if your license is derived from an older edition of Windows (e.g. Win 7) that assuming your license is linked to an MS account, changing the MOBO will still allow you to reactivate Windows. I don't know why you would want to consider using some (probably old) OEM disk to install Windows.

    a. That's a free upgrade from Win 10.
    b. Win 11 licenses can be validly acquired for under $20. (E.g. advertised on sharewareonsale.com and more).

Win 10 license can also be used on Win 11.

I suggest you build the USB Win 10 22h2 installation drive using MCT so it can boot as Legacy or UEFI.

As you're changing the computer main parts, technically your Win 10 OEM license can't be reused (only retail license can be transferred) but there are some workarounds you can try like logging in with a MS account.

Also, make sure to change your existing Windows 10 Product Key to the retail generic equivalent. YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7 for Home, or VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T for Pro. This will cause your current Windows 10 license to switch to the retail channel which will increase your chances of transferring (it actually copies, not transfers) your existing Windows 10 activation to the new motherboard.
