    Reinstall windows 10

I have myself in a right mess and feel the best thing to do is a reinstall. However I am unsure whether it should be a restore or refresh. Problem is I have lost some program cds in a house move. All was well with the initial upgrade from Windows 7, I didn't lose any but am unsure if this is the case if I replace the OS. Can anyone help please

Hello Jamand, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you like, you might see if you may be able to do a repair install instead where you won't lose anything.

Be careful and do EXACTLY as your told..... I went from Win 7 to Win 10 (on 7-29) and hated it (Win 10) (but I had not lost my Win 7 stuff) then I tried to go back to Win 7 and did something wrong and lost ALL my Win 7 stuff.... Now I am stuck with Win 10 until I get home and find a Computer expert......... Yes I still have Windows.old on here but no clue what to do with it......

Thank you both for your advice. In the end I decided to Live Chat with Microsoft because I was receiving the Critical Error regarding the Start Menu. I spent nearly 10 hours over a couple of days being frustrated because several times I got to nearly the end of the queue (well over 100 people each time) when I got cut off. I then actually made contact and MS were going to take over the PC but failed to give me the permission code so again they terminated. I finally reached help on Sunday afternoon and spent nearly 3 hours with a very helpful person who solved the problem for me - but didn't warn that I would lose all My Documents and e-mails!. Fortunately they were all backed up to an external hard drive. Let this be a warning to other members of the forum. I am back up and running, albeit having to spend time setting the PC to my requirements, but if it continues to work well it will be time well spent. Thank you for providing this service, I hope I do not have anymore problems but will now know where to turn.
