Yeah because you can run the wim file from windows its like running the physical cd from a loaded windows environment and then installing the OS where it will reboot.
I could say the same? You posted with out much context. All i see is that you ran a wim file from windows and booted into img 3. I was just agreeing with that.
No. it is from pe. It runs x:\setup.exe to install from any chosen wim/swm/esd file.
I normally use winntsetup for that kind of thing which does not rely on setup.exe and has some extra flexibilty.
But the basic job can be done using x:\setup.exe .
That little ui doesnt do much, it is just for covenience of browsing and checking one has selected the intended image file.
In the end it just passes
x:\setup.exe -installfrom:<imagefile>
can achieve similar with the command
x:\setup.exe /installfrom:"Q:\vista2021x64install.wim"
If you have multiple disks and esp partitions, it is probably better to use winntsetup.
Hello @SIW2,
May I have any script\tool from you to run any wim file to install any windows like 7, 10, 11 from pe environment?
Can you attach the file here , please.

You don't need any script.
Just follow the multiple guides out there on creating a multi-edition ISO. There's no rule that every edition has to be the same Windows release. Your only limitation is the WinPE (or host ISO) must be a Windows release equal to, or higher than, every release found in the multi-edition ISO.
Start with a W11 ISO, remove unwanted editions, and add other releases to it. To make Windows Setup display every image, you should make an EI.cfg (as widely documented everywhere).
DISM - Create Bootable ISO with Multiple Windows 10 Images
If you want your own custom Setup "launcher", then you can write one and call it from PE's startnet.cmd.
Yeah because setup.exe is just a loader for the wim files all that matters at the end of the day is that wim file when you are installing.
Setup.exe searches the root all partitions looking for a Sources folder containing the matching installation files.
If your installation files do not match (e.g. different os version)
or
If your installation files are in a different location
It is possible to point setup.exe at the wim/swm/esd file using the /installfrom switch
x:\setup.exe /installfrom:<path_to_wim/swm/esd>
It has nothing to do with the editions in the wim/swm/esd
When I tested using win11 setup.exe, it insisted on creating an extra esp partition on disk1 and then confused itself about which esp to use.
Disk0 already had an os and an esp. Disk1 already had an os and an esp.
setup.exe created an additional esp on disk1.
Works ok with only disk0 attached.
I don't remember having that issue when I used to do it with win7 setup.exe
