Okay, do this again but instead use the expert options in Clonezilla and then use the following options ONLY.

    J2

    Q1

    Rescue

It'll be disk to disk. Not to image.
Followed to the letter, cloning was successfull, but cloned drive not bootable as before, so no change

Did you cleaned the drive with diskpart before cloning?
I'm still don't understand why disk manager showed a EFI partition as 2 and diskpart as 1

just a simple question here: does the system boot with the old drive?

if yes, you doing something wrong when cloning the drive.
If no, then you have already a problem which you are cloning.

if it is and UEFI, then from what I've seen on screen shots, you're missing the boot partition, an approximately 100 megabytes FAT 32.

Just some facts to make it clear:
    - The source disk is a Samsung 970 512MB Nvme installed in my Dell XPS 9570 laptop, it has Windows 10 installed and it works perfectly fine. sfc and dism tests show the file system has no corruption.
    - The target disk is a Samsung 980 1TB Nvme, it is healthy and always cleaned and set to GPT with diskpart before cloning. I tested fresh installing Windows 10 in this disk and the drive boots perfectly fine.
    - I'm using a Startech M2E1BRU31C enclosure to hold the target disk, connected via TB3 to my XPS9570.
    - I've tried Acronis, Macrium Reflect and Clonezilla to clone the 970 onto the 980, all cloning attempts rendered an unbootable target disk, but all file and partition contents show up in Disk Management
    - I've tried repairing the boot file both manually with cmd and steps outlined in this thread and in youtube videos, and automatically with a Windows Recovery Drive or 3rd party tools, all were unsuccessful
    - Yes, I can freshly install Windows and restore data from source drive and reinstall apps, but I'm trying to avoid this as it is time consuming, choosing to see if I can clone.
    - I tried backup/restore with Acronis instead of cloning, the results are the same, not able to boot
    - BIOS settings are all fine, Secure Boot disabled, UEFI+AHCI. Also, the source drive has no encryption, Bitlocker is off.

Yes, I was trying other options suggested in the thread before submitting the logs

I don't know if this helps, but I recently cloned my 512GB drive to a 1TB on my Lenovo laptop using Macrim Reflect. I remember I had to disable bitlocker and also disable secure boot in the bios. I then ran Macrim, installed the new drive in the laptop because I found out it won't boot via USB, and it worked. I then re-enabled bitlocker and re-enabled secure boot in the bios. I thought I would post this just in case. Best of luck.

I finally solved the issue with a trick. I have this Acronis backup of another Dell XPS 9710 I own and restored it onto the target disk, voila, now the Dell XPS 9570 boots fine with the restored disk, and I did not use the Startech enclosure for this, just a Startech adapter connected to an SSD with the backup. I'm starting to think that the culprit might be the Startech enclosure I used. Fact is that in all previous clone attempts the software used (Acronis, Macrium, Clonezilla) does not detect the Samsung disk inside the enclosure, rather it detects the enclosure's flash signature. So maybe the rendered clone does not have the appropiate ID and Windows cannot load.
UPDATE: I cloned the original source drive without the Startech enclosure and now the target drive is bootable. Definitely the cause of the issue was the enclosure. Thanks everyone.

Yep, that's exactly what I was going to say. Your NVMe enclosure is at fault.

Looking at your NVMe enclosure at Amazon seems waaay over priced. I bought this one and have successfully used it for clones with Clonezilla. The Clonezilla commands I gave you will clone anything, Bitlocker, Truecrypt or Veracrypt encrypted, different partition schemes, etc. So when you said it still failed I immediately assumed your drive enclosure was at fault.

On the other hand, maybe even your USB port or the chipset is at fault. Just something there hardware wise, not software.

And thanks for following my instructions. Many people just run and never come back. LOL

Yes, StarTech is a more expensive brand but their products are top quality and when it comes to something sensitive as data transfer I always trust them. Throughout the years I bought from them cable adapters, enclosures, etc and they never failed. As per this enclosure M2E1BRU31C, it's not faulty, but as it is Windows can not see what drive is inside, it can only see that a Startech mass storage has been attached and this fact might interfere with a successful cloning. Maybe it can be fixed with a firmware update, I'll send Startech this feedback. To use it as external storage/data transfer it works fine. Yes, this enclosure is overpriced, among the most expensive Startech items, as most thunderbolt devices are.The laptop's USB port is fine, I've done multiple clones/backups/data transfers connecting various devices and no issues.
The good thing about these threads is that you learn cool stuff like cmd commands, boot manager, etc. I will keep Clonezilla in my software collection, and I particularly like Ventoy, by adding multiple ISO's to a single USB stick I will no longer travel with 10 pen drives, nice app, thanks 😎
