    Can install Windows 10 due to insuffient space on a 500GB partition

    Hello everyone,

    I am attempting to install Windows 10 (Pro) on a dual boot system (with Windows 11 Pro). However, when I get to customizing I select a 500 partition carved out of a 1TB SSD, I get a message telling me that the partition is not big enough.

    Does anyone here know how to get passed this and continue on with installation?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Yep. Don't use a 500GB "partition". Use 500 GB of unallocated space instead.

    Hi Ghot. Thanks for responding.

    I tried both with an allocated (formatted) and unformatted (unallocated) partition/space. Still got the same message. Any other ideas?

    Hi Ghot.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I am already familiar with creating a dual boot machine. What I am trying to do now is reinstall Windows 10 since I need to restore it after doing some modifications to the WinRE partition (making it bigger) and shrinking the EFI for that extra space. Unfortunately, I have not been able to restore the EFI partition and now Windows 10 will not boot, so, after a lot of trial and error I have decided to reinstall Windows 10 which I thought was the inevitable solution. Hence my current predicament.

    Kind regards,

    There is nothing to reinstall.
    I gave you the instructions some days before. But you didn't follow.
    You should be happy that Windows doesn't allow you the new installation.

    Hi Pentagon,
    I did follow your instructions. That's how I was able to successfully update. However, you instructed me to use the EFI partition and now I can't get it back. Nonetheless, I understand your frustration with me and I apologize, particularly because I did not respond to your last message. I do sincerely appreciate your help.

    I told you not to do that!! Go back and check the commands I gave you!

    Can you boot into Win 11?

    Please post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
    If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.

    Hi Pentagon,

    I have this post which I was referring to:

    USE CMD (!) and not PowerShell
    OK your boot partition is on disk 1 partition 1

    So I suggest to delete the EFI Partition 6 and extend partition 5

    Type cmd
    diskpart
    sel disk 1
    sel par 6
    set id="ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7"
    delete partition override
    sel par 5
    extend
    exit

    This adds the 532 MB to your Recovery Partition.

    I strongly recommend not to use drive letter B for WIN11

    Win 10 ==> C
    WIN 11 ==> D
    Data ==> E
    B: only for ESP-MOUNTING (The day will come when you are happy about that!)
    Change your timeout from 30 to 3 or 5
    And that's what I did (delete the EFI partition).

    Kind regards,

    tecknot

    Hi Megaherts,

    Yes, I can boot into Windows 11. Here is a current screenshot of my Disk Management:
