Upgraded to Windows 11 on an Optane-enabled system

I am no longer on Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron 3280 AIO. After much deliberations and wavering - I was very much worried whether the presence of Intel Optane Memory module showing as an unallocated disk will prevent/jumble-up a successful upgrade to Windows 11 - I decided to bite the bullet and went ahead with the Windows Update upgrade to Windows 11.

The download and install process took two hours and completed successfully.

Before starting the upgrade I had 1. disabled Optane in the Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management application. 2. Turned off Device encryption. 3. Backed up the full system with Macrium Reflect and AOMEI Backupper Standard

On successful completion, I was on Windows 11 Version 22H2 Build 22621.2428 that after further windows updates culminated in Build 22621.2506. Still sprucing up the Windows 11 install.

Windows 11 supports Optane memory. You have to add the IRST drivers to your installation media

Forget Optane. It's dead tech. As you have the BX500 SSD, Optane won't make much difference. If you want to move to a higher level, replace the Optane and the BX500 with a M.2 NVMe drive. They are now with a very affordable price.

Exactly. I have practically seen that enabling Optane doesn't make much difference. That is the reason why I have kept the Optane disabled. Atleast it will not wear out and die soon. I shall change to NVME when Optane dies. Not until then. I had already said it. I am quite happy with 16GB RAM + SSD. Also now I have a Beelink MiniPc with Win 11Pro , 32GB RAM + 500GB NVME, 12th Gen Intel core i5-1235U(Alder Lake) processor.

@bfunke, in a system with Optane, one cannot enable and run it by just injecting IRST driver. The Optane + the OS disk is controlled by "Intel Optane and Storage Management" application into which the IRST driver is embedded. There is a specific procedure to install and activate the IRST+ Optane app. If it is an OEM machine it is all done already and you only keep updating the app dished out in the Microsoft Store. Since Intel has discontinued Optane there will be no further updated applications with embedded IRST drivers..

I have kept Optane disabled. ( I can enable it but combined with the replaced Crucial 1 TB SSD it does not show any significant acceleration of the SSD)
