am currently using the backup one (a super old HD).
The SSD is a brand new Verbatim 500
I thought when you were attempting to install Win 10 you only had the SSD in place. That is, there should be no disks other than the internal SSD and the external bootable disk in play.

Please confirm again, bearing in mind the 'E:' drive reference, which you mention in post #8, that this is really so.

In your screenshot showing drive E:, should I assume you then are booting your PC from the old HDD, with the SSD in the PC as well, in which case the Windows partition on the SSD could well be E:

But there is no reason for there to be a reference to E: in the installation log.

    That's what concerns me.

    Thanks.

Detach (SATA or power cable) any other drive from the MB leaving on only the SSD and the USB Win 10 installation drive.
You don't need to use diskpart to clean the drive. Delete all partitions and then proceed.

"In your screenshot showing drive E:, should I assume you then are booting your PC from the old HDD, with the SSD in the PC as well, in which case the Windows partition on the SSD could well be E:"

Yes, to write here, I got to plug the sata of the old HD again, which is C: and the SSD is E: (as you see in the pic)

"But there is no reason for there to be a reference to E: in the installation log.
    That's what concerns me."

I found that strange too. I think that the SSD should be C: when installing, as I'm unplugging the sata plugs from the other drives before installing. Only the SSD and USB are connected. (The BIOS is showing only the SSD and USB too). Maybe the letter is controlled with the sata slot(?)

BTW currently after the last mentioned failed install, there is a D: drive named "System Reserved" with 50kb and 2 dirs:

    ---

I don't want to install unofficial ISOs for security issues.
Will try to install an older Win 10 Enterprise ISO I have in the HD that I know it works and report back.

If you have any other ideas please do post them.

    ---

Edit: this is a ss of the disk management (currently):

To install Win 10 you must boot from a Win 10 installation drive (USB or DVD-DL)
For what I understand you're trying to install Win 10 running setup from a running Windows on your old HDD.
    Is it correct?

We are trying very hard to have this setup- no other disks- remove or disconnect your internal HD when clean installing Win 10...

    External USB installation disk
    |
    V
    Your PC
    containing ONLY the SSD
    - which is blank - no partitions

I.e. you disconnect or remove your HD inside your PC,
then boot from the external disk....

Please excuse if I didn't explain it clearly enough. English is not my main language.

In the first post, and only then I tried to install win 10 with other disks connected.
After you guys told me, I started every install with only the SSD and USB connected.
And am still getting the same error.

Is just that as I don't have another PC, to write here (and to check what happened with the SDD), I have to plug it again.

    So:

"For what I understand you're trying to install Win 10 running setup from a running Windows on your old HDD.
    Is it correct?"

No. Only the SSD and USB are connected in installs.

I am doing exactly that. Still getting the same error.

At this point IDK, will try a new ISO with a 2021 Win 10 Enterprise
Or maybe figure out how to test it with a DVD (got an old one, don't know if it still works)
Wondering if its possible to load an ISO from a partition and make it bootable (if the DVD player doesn't work).

    Ok, it's clear. Thanks

As you have Windows running, please download HDSentinel trial and run on the SSD

After you attempt the installation to the blank SSD do you still see a reference to drive E: ?

If so, is there anything else inside or connected to your PC that is any sort of storage?

That could include a SD card...

Nope, is a really old pc, so no sd card. It keeps using E: (even after I plugged it in other SATA slot).
BTW this E: is the SSD for what I can see.

These are the full error logs from the the last install:

    2) Full sources/Panther/setupact.log (you can see the E: references here too)
    setupact.log - Google Drive

Does that help identifying the problem?
