Hello @xfrogx and welcome to TenForums.

Yeah, put the key in. It'll give you Windows 10 Home.

THX for the reply . The key didnt work I guess I will have to activate the win 7 first then try again. The current win 7 is not activated according to the usb win 10 install. This is a older laptop that I haven't updated in maybe 2 years. I think I put win 7 pro on it so its not the original win 7 home prem

You can also install Windows 7, activate it, then upgrade it to Windows 10.
Then if desired you can do a clean install of Windows 10, which will activate because it already activated on that computer when you upgraded.

    These may help...

    Clean Install Windows 10

    Activate Windows 10

Windows isn't running when you start the install as you're booting from the USB. I wonder what you mean by saying it's on line? That could only happen later in the installation sequence.

So, just to check, when you do the clean install, are you deleting all partitions on the system disk comprising your existing O/S?

Around steps 13/14 of the clean install tutorial cited above.

    Please follow the tutorial.

And I did ask a question. Thanks.

Internet? For example, there's this from the clean install tutorial (referenced from the one you're using:
Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First
    )
4 If you are installing the Window 10 Home edition of version 20H2 and want to use a local account instead of a Microsoft account, then you will need to temporarily disconnect your computer from the Internet until installation has finished.

    - which may or may not apply to you.

    And this near the start:
Internet: To activate Windows 10, and required to add Microsoft account

But during the early stages there will by definition be no established connection as Windows isn't running.
My question was also meant to ensure that you haven't somehow booted normally and then started running setup.exe - an in-place upgrade.

And FWIW it is possible to install Windows with no internet connection.

    THX for the reply.

THX for the reply. HI I wanted to use skip button on the enter product key page but there was only enter and back buttons. I may have booted normally and then started running setup.exe - an in-place upgrade. I will review the tutorials and try again THX

Don't make things complicated. If you have a sticker with Windows 7 key, take a photo with your phone. If you don't, load Windows 7 and use ShowKeyPlus to tell you what the key is. Write it down or take a photo. Now boot (start your computer) from your Windows 10 USB flash drive. To create it use Rufus to open the Windows 10 ISO and create it. Make sure you select the MBR Legacy BIOS option. The GPT option may not work in your computer. In Windows Setup type the Windows 7 key and proceed. If you cannot activate after connecting to the internet there is an option to activate by phone (call Microsoft). If you don't see that option, type slui 4 on a command prompt to get there.
