Upgraded old computer
I didn't use a computer much anymore because it was so slow. That is, it was slow to boot and was slow at the desktop.
The specs are shown below. Note it is a dual-boot for Windows 10 Home & Windows 7 Pro. I replaced the 1TB SATA HDD with a 1TB SATA SSD.
1. Cloned the Windows 10 drive
a. I mounted the 1TB SATA SSD in an external enclosure
b. I installed Acronis True Image 2017
c. With it I cloned the 1TB SATA HDD to the 1TB SATA SSD
2. I removed the 1TB SATA HDD and replaced it with the 1TB SATA SSD
3. When I rebooted I had to go into the BIOS and change the boot drive to the SSD
4. After I booted into Windows 10 I ran EasyBCD and fixed the boot for Windows 7
Comparing the 1TB HDD with the 1TB SSD
It may seem a surprise to some that the Sequential Read/write speeds for the SSD are not much faster than the HDD. However, Random Read/write speeds for the SSD are much faster than the HDD.
Note the SSD read/writes speeds are only half those expected because the motherboard only supported SATA 2.0.
I download and ran Restart-Time (2023-03-02).bat before and after I replaced the HDD with an SSD. The computer not only booted faster but was much more responsive at the desktop.
