Well, I did run Dell diagnostics and it was fine but that was after the crash before this last one.
So you are suggesting I do the clean install and then run disk checks - ram checks and diagnostics. Yes?
As far as the Macrium Reflect boot disk is not working, that is easy to remedy. Try this:
1) Insert your UFD (USB Flash Disk) in a USB port.
2) Run diskpart.
3) Once diskpart has started, run the following commands:
list disk <- Use to determine which disk the UFD is. Should be obvious from the size. Note the disk number.
select disk x <- Replace the 'x' with the disk number of the UFD.
clean <- The 'clean' command sometimes results in an error being displayed. If so, simply run it again.
convert mbr
create partition primary
format fs=fat32 quick
assign
exit
NOTE: If the UFD is larger than 32GB, create the partition with a specific size no larger than 32GB. Example: Use "create partition primary size=20000" rather than the "create partition primary" command shown above.
4) Now, use Macrium Reflect to create the the disk again. It should work this time.
Well I think I'll just do a clean install and then use the Macrium usb rescue. It worked before the crash. I'm sure it will work once the system has been restored Thanks.
Just finished installing but now it seems stuck on the Dell logo and "getting reading" Should I abort this process - and hope it starts up?
Advice is to let it keep at it for at least a few hours - then do a hard reboot. Guess I'll comply.

So, it has restarted about 3 times. Each time it restarts, it comes up with windows 10 line or Macrium line. I didn't do the Macrium line as I think I should check out the answer about what to do with a new install before recovering my old "stuff"...

That drive is only about 7 mos old. I am going to make a new Macrium image of it in its new fresh state. If it continues to give bsod's I will have to consider that change but for now I'm going to stick with it. Thanks.
I am wondering however, when I boot, the screen with win10 AND Macrium recovery menu comes up. I don't understand that since this is a clean install and Macrium is not installed as far as I know.
All a mystery but at least I have a system back.
Can someone please tell me why Macrium recovery line comes up when I start pc - newly installed win10. Can I just use my boot usb with recovery data to follow or should I go to that window that comes up. I know I need to make a new image but don't know which route to take for sure. Thanks.
Hi, your question makes the assumption you've done a clean install properly.tell me why Macrium recovery line comes up when I start pc - newly installed win10.
Did you...
- boot your PC from a win 10 install disk you created?
- as part of the procedure (around steps 13/14 of the clean install tutorial) did you delete all existing partitions making up your old O/S? (Typically 4 for a UEFI installation, perhaps more if you have redundant Recovery partitions).
Further, just to check, confirm you don't have a Macrium boot disk plugged in.
1. yes
2. no - did not see that as an option.
3. no - do not - was hesitant to put that in until I know exactly what to do.
Thanks. Will await further instruction re: existing partition deletion.
