Dropped Dell Lattitude 3590, Now will not boot WIn 10, Ver H22?

    Greetings

A friend of mine grandkids knocked his Dell lattitude 3590 service tag D44GYQ2 off of a chair, and now it won't boot. After awhile I get the boot manager error that it failed to boot. and to insert a windows disk and perform a repair. At that screen I get the message insert an installation disk and select repair computer.

This does not work, I get the error cannot repair. AT the startup screen it says file: windows\system32\config\system

    status 0xc000185

The operating system couldn't be loaded because the system registry file is missing or contains errors

It passes the internal self test. I can also get it to boot off a Linux disk. Based on the linux boot disk the drive is encrypted. Anybody have any experience with TPMs? It has a Solid state drive in it, and the Linux boot can see the drive.I checked inside and can see no visible loose connections I installed the OS (upgrade from win 8) on a new SSHD 12 months ago for the gentlemen, and did not encrypt the drive. Any ideas would be appreciated, otherwise he will lose his data. As I recall it had Win 10 Pro on it (Upgraded from WIn 8 pro).

I have tried to reinstall windows, but the Drive is not visible. Assuming I cannot get it to boot how do I reformat the drive?

It is a Samung 870 EVO. If I have to reinstall it, I would like to reuse the drive.

    Thanks

Was the laptop on when it fell off of a chair?

When you enter BIOS, can you see the drive specs?

    - Check the drive - MoBo connector.
    - Ask your friend if he encrypted the drive or installed Win 11
    - Do you have the original HDD to make a test with it?

I've had drives fail to boot on some Dell laptops. Re-seat the drive and leave one screw out (this is if the drive slides in from the side). Then before booting (this is gonna sound weird) place you hand flat on the keyboard and apply a good amount of pressure down on the keyboard. then slowly release pressure and turn it on. There was an issue with the SATA controller chips on some latitude models where the solder wasn't balled correctly. If that works get all the data off of it and if it's still under warranty or if he can extend the warranty get a service call open for it and have the MB replaced.

If Linux can see the drive but Windows Setup cannot, you likely need to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) driver during setup. Can't help you with drive encryption issue.
