Updating Windows ISO Image (21H1 to 22H2).

Hello Guys,

I used this method (Create Windows 10 ISO image from Existing Installation) to create an ISO file from existing installation and everything works great, I managed to create a custom ISO with lots of software installed on it.

Now I'd like to update the system version from 21H2 to 22H2 without reinstalling all the programs that I've already installed manually, is this even possible? If yes, how would I do that?

Is appreciate any help as this is urgent for me!

Hi, I must be missing something. Can you not upgrade your installed O/S then create a new iso file from that?

Hey,

Not really no, you can't run Windows Updates in Audit Mode, as if you do, the sysprep will fail. Don't know the exact reason behind it. I also can't install it, create an user account and then update it, because it'll have my user account on it. The image must OBBE as much as possible, with the apps on the image.

Can I just not copy the .wim file and place it in 22H2 windows ISO files and create an ISO from it?

Well, I was referring to updating an installed O/S in the normal way...

I think you are looking at attempting to change the ISO itself directly.
@Kari may be able to suggest more.

What exactly are you trying to do.

If you are trying to create an iso without your user account, do it like this.

1) update current version with your account to 22H2.

2) then run sysprep

3) then create custom iso.

If you created the iso from a installation, why don't you install on a drive, update it and then do the same process you did to create the iso?
