UPGRADE Enterprise Windows 8.1 - choose CORRECT download

    Hi there

Just a warning -- there are TWO different versions of W10 technical preview -- Non Enterprise and the Enterprise version.

If you like me are running the Enterprise version of Windows 8.1 as a VM or as a HOST then you will need the ENTERPRISE VERSION in order to do an update in place -- if you download the NON enterprise version then it will only offer you keep personal files.

You also need to install the same LANGUAGE version - so English on English (if using UK then UK version on UK version).

So for people who want to do an inplace upgrade rather than a clean install -- CHECK WHICH VERSION you are downloading -- there are TWO different one's.

Hopefully this warning will save other people time and prevent them from making the same mistake that I did -- (fortunately having "cloned" VM's it wasn't to bad to repeat the upgrade process again with another copy of my W8.1 M).

I don't think the download links are that clear --there's an ENTERPRISE VERSION and NON ENTERPRISE version -- for Windows to go use the ENTERPRISE version.

    Cheers

Are there any Enterprise features you'd recommend IT folks trying, or does the regular Preview give a "real" impression of the OS?

Windows to go is a nice feature -- only available from the Enterprise version. I think Bitlocker is also only Enterprise available -- otherwise most of the differences are as far as a home desktop user is concerned not really applicable -- for example network domains, security policies and other corporate stuff.
