Driver update broke my ethernet & question about upgrade

Hi all. I broke my Ethernet, because i used ccleaner to update my ethernet to newer version, and now i get error code 56. Even if i update the driver to my old driver that ccleaner did a backup on, it still says error code 56. It just wont install it.

How do i fix it? I don't have a restore point in windows.

Question 2: Is it possible to do a in-place upgrade without a internet connection? If i download the windows iso from working windows (i have 2 windows in my system different HDD) and then use that in my broken windows, is it possible to do in-place upgrade (keep your files and folders) with that while its offline?

There must be a registry entry or something else that can fix this error Ethernet 56 code.

Do you have the option to Roll Back Driver in device manager?

Yes. If you get the ISO while on a working Windows, or from another computer... you just transfer the ISO to the machine with broken Ethernet... and do the In-Place Upgrade.
You don't need an internet connection to do an In-Place Upgrade.

As for the error code 56... we need to know the text that is listed with the error code.

In a current thread, another user experienced much the same using Ccleaner like that, but for multiple drivers, included ethernet.
A number of responses taking up members' time- I suggested the obvious - a restore point. Fortunately that user had one.
Time and again there are threads where tenforums members advise against the use of 3rd party driver updaters.

Here's a useful tutorial for you:
Automatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10

And of course members so often recommend the routine use of disk imaging.

Expect the worst: prepare for the worst.

I'll do a Google search, but I am really skeptical it would work in my case.

Thanks. I disabled windows restore because it never works for me and always fails, so I instead make restore with EaseUS backup, that works every time. I found that I have a restore with EaseUS from 1 week ago. So it's really fresh. But I would love to be able to fix this without having to go back.

Thanks! Do all my group policy settings revert after in-place upgrade? I can just make a backup, but I want to know. It says "Error Code 56: Windows is Still Setting Up the Class Configuration For This Device"

Group Policy... I dunno... I'm on Home, and don't have GPE.

Tried this already, none of them worked.

I think my windows wants internet and then maybe it would work. But not even my wifi dongle worked, I get the same issue. Then I tried sharing internet from my phone, but that also fails, because my Bluetooth network drivers were never installed when I had internet because I disabled it.

Thanks, but I would need internet for this to work, and I have no internet on that broken windows. And not even updating drivers through device manager manually to my old drivers that ccleaner did a back-up on worked.

Ok... you see what I said about In-Place Upgrade above.

Other than that... my best advice would be... now that you're a lot more familiar with Windows 10...
Maybe the best option right now... is just to do a clean install.

This time... get it set up the way you want... with backups made along the way, so if anything breaks, you can just restore.
I honestly had to do the same thing with Win 10, back when I first switched to it.
It was just too different from Win 7 and Win XP.

AFTER, I got a taste of Windows 10 and decided to do a clean install, this was the way I did it...

Clean installed Windows 10. Installed only my motherboard and vid card driver, and then made a backup.
Then did Windows updates, and installed very few absolutely necessary programs, then made another backup.

THEN... I installed the rest of my programs. I tried to keep the "size" of the C:\ drive data... small, so that backups and restores were fast. Bigger programs I installed on a storage drive.

Now... I KNOW that MS expects me to deal with their mistakes occasionally, so I just hop from backup to backup.
I leave myself a trail of backup bread crumbs, so to speak. Haven't had an unsolvable problem since.

I do the exact same thing on Windows 11 as well.

I use the... "don't trust any new software" method. I make a backup before and after any major changes.
If you make it possible to do FAST backups and restores... Win 10 and Win 11 become a "walk in the park".
It takes me 2:20 to make a backup and 1:30 to do a restore.

    How I do Macrium...

These days.... it seems everyone is sending out half-baked software.
I don't update anything until it's necessary to update.
Aside from Windows Updates... I don't update anything until it's been "out in the field" for at least 6 months.
And even then... only if it's.... needed.

And even for Windows Updates... I make a fresh backup right before every Windows Update Tuesday.
(2nd Tuesday of each month). Just in case.

    Short version...
If I can't rely on "them" (software developers), to do things properly,
then I'll have to rely on myself, and my backups.

Most of the regulars on here... do things sort of the same way.
We each have our own "methods", but the overall plan is pretty much the same.

    Updating...

    1. Do the Windows Updates the 2nd Tuesday of every month, but make a backup, first.
(Windows Update Tuesday is the 14th of this month. So tomorrow or Monday I'll make a fresh backup.)
    2. Update vid card drivers only if needed... really needed.
    3. Motherboard drivers... leave them alone unless absolutely needed.
    4. The motherboard "chipset" drivers are the only ones I update regularly. And the latest version is always linked...

    Now as for the BIOS.
With chain store computers like HP or DELL... etc., you pretty much have to do them when they tell you to.
For the rest of us with DIY computers... I update the BIOS about every 2-4 versions.

Before Win 11... we only flashed the BIOS about every 10 or so versions.
But, because of Win 11... they're making BIOS changes a lot faster. And some are even necessary.
