If you have Secure Boot enabled and two drives, one has Win 11 installed as normal and the other installed as S mode. Both will boot as S mode, correct?
If you disconnect the Win 11 drive installed as S mode does the other Win 11 installed as normal still boot as S mode?
That is all correct, unless you do the Microsoft method in the MS store to deactivate S Mode. You can even do a clean install from a stock ISO file downloaded directly from Microsoft onto a blank drive and it will be in S Mode unless you disable Secure Boot. Now, I have only tried it in Windows 11 Home. So I don't know what would happen if I did a clean install of Windows 10/11 Pro. I would bet it would install in S Mode, but I haven't tested it, yet.

And what happens if you disable secure boot, boot to find out if it is in normal mode and then enable secure boot. Does it continue to boot in S mode?

    According to the article, no.

It appears that installing in S mode does something to secure boot in the firmware.

It is possible that booting into the S moded os with secure boot on does that something also, havent tested it to see..

In my experiment, I installed a normal Windows 11 Home from an ISO file downloaded from Microsoft. Then on a second disk I installed Windows 11 Home in S Mode using a modified ISO file. With secure boot on, both Windows 11s booted in S Mode, and a clean install on a new, unallocated disk with the unmodified ISO file also booted into S Mode. If Secure Boot was turned off, only the Windows 11 that was modified to install in S Mode would boot into S Mode.

It is a bit like how we often use well known brand names as a generic term e.g. can I borrow your "hoover" or "biro" as it is just easier than saying "vacuum cleaner" or "ball point pen" (in UK at least).
Or like saying "I'll xerox that," or "I will google that."
