Trying to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and I get "Error Code: 0x8004230f"

I've verified that Volume Shadow Copy service is running as that was the common thing it said when I searched the error. Still no luck. Also ran SFC and DISM scans, no dice. Also deleted and refreshed contents of SoftwareDistribution folder and restarted. Same error.

Probably the easiest and fastest solution...

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.
The ISO must be created in the same language as you are using in Windows, to be able to keep your Programs and Files.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

    Upgrade from what version?
What were the steps you did?
Is the Win 10 pro key a retail or OEM key?

It's a retail key, I bought it from the MS Store. I just clicked install on the store page and followed the prompts. It sits at 0% for a minute or two then throws me that error.

    Again the question remains..
    Upgrade from what version?
The forum prompted you thus - so we don't have to keep asking:
Trying to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and I get "Error Code: 0x8004230f"-win-10-version.png

And do you have Home now- or something else? (Settings, About also helps here).

    Have you:
    - checked your disk - e.g Hard Disk Sentinel (excellent), Crystal Diskinfo (free, basic)
    - if ok, run
    chkdsdk c: /scan

    - uninstalled 3rd party security software completely?

How much free space do you have on C: ?

    For reference:
Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro
    - and see as appropriate related tutorials linked below the main text.

You might gain some information by running
    setupdiag.exe
(free from MS - attempts to analyse log files).

    Post the result if informative.

And as advised by @Ghot, an in-place upgrade repair install may help and can resolve many upgrade problems.

As you have a retail key and I suppose you are trying to upgrade a Win 10 home, follow the tutorial.
