XP Laptop will not update further than Win 10 v1709

My old HP NC6320 32bit and 64bit processor with 4g memory, I've used for mapping my Kitcar ignition.

Was XP years ago, updated to Win 8.1 pro and onto Win 10 v1709 some years ago and served with no issues apart from being not supported any more.

So decided to update, no joy. So not having done a fresh install for some years. I did a fresh install of Win 8.1 from my disc, no problems although not supported.
Installed Win 10 v1709 from my disk, no problems although again not supported.

Tried to update to 22H2, no joy with a BSOD coming up. So reading some posts some have installed Win 10 20H1 then onto 22H2, same again BSOD. Latest, tried Win 10 v1903 and installing a bat file found on here to clear files before installing. Still same BSOD.

The BSOD, has a stop code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED, no error codes shown.

As its not an every day laptop, is it telling enough is enough time for the bin. If anything although old, its better built than some of todays machines.

2.Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvc
    net stop bits
    net stop msiserver
    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if Windows Updates works then.

    3. Latest Version 1903 by installing Media Creation Tool from this link and choose Upgrade This PC Now:

    Thanks,
The batch file used was 'Reset Reregister Windows Update Components' which I think is the same.
The win 10 v1903, I had from Rufus onto a USB. But cannot burn because of a problem so mounted from the stick.

Will try the media link later, thanks

Several of us have encountered the same problem and it has never been solved as I said in response to your previous post on the subject.

Several of the most capable members of this forum attempted to help solve the problem for some Dell Inspiron 9300 users in 2018 [v1803 being the first version that they could not install] but they were unsuccessful.

I wish you well but I do think trying to tackle this problem is futile.

Manually installing will bypass Safeguard Holds (see e.g.
How to Disable Safeguard Holds for Feature Updates on Windows 10)

    - so if Windows Update did not offer an upgrade from 1709, that may be why.

If it works for you with 1709, and you have viable AV protection, and especially if you don't use it online much and it does something useful- then why not continue using it with build 1709?

Did you try to install Win 10 32 bits or 64?
