Cannot update Windows 10 1709 to 22H2 double error messages/failed

I am UNABLE to update Windows 10 1709 to 22H2 using the Windows Update Assistant. It has failed a number of times today. It ALWAYS throws two error message EVERY TIME!


Around 90% step 3, I ALWAYS get the following error message "Modern Setup Host Has Stopped Working". Immediately following I get another error message "Something went wrong. Select try again and if that doesn't work contact support. Error code 0xc190011f" I have tried at least five times already today.

Google has VERY LITTLE information regarding Error code 0xc190011f and the few results are from 2017 and pertain to updating to 1709. I AM on 1709 trying to update to 22H2 and I get the SAME error.

I added 22H2 to the search and every search results says "missing 22H2" throwing quotes around "22H2" only showed junk results.

There seems to be literally nobody else in existence getting Error code 0xc190011f trying to update to 22H2.

This is the same HP 2000 Notebook PC 2000-2b30dx that I was trying to install Windows 10 on with the Windows Upgrade Assistant (not to be confused with the Windows Update Assistant I am trying to install 22H2 with) and I am past the installing Windows 10 part now stuck on getting the latest build.

I tried Windows Update but all that is doing is installing all the updates for 1709 ONLY and now it says that there is no more.

Does anybody know what the problem could be and how to fix it?

You should consider doing a "clean" install and getting a fresh start.

I've not found that to be the case, A year back I successfully did an in-place upgrade from the original release, version 1507 to the then current latest release. One thing that seems to help is that with an in-place upgrade you can (and should) tell it not to check for updates during the upgrade (something you cannot do with the Update Assistant).

To prepare for the in-place upgrade, first make an install USB using the Media Creation Tool. Try the upgrade first, and if that too fails then you can use that same USB to do a clean install.

Agreed, Version 1709 [Sept. 2017] is too old and reached EOL/End Of Life some time ago. We are now on Version 22H2 [Second Half of 2022]. I'll go out on a limb to say there's been too many Versions and Builds that it would be best install newer Version. Tutorial about how to:

You may or may not get a little more info by running

setupdiag.exe

free from MS

This attempts to analyse the upgrade log files.

Do you have any 3rd party security programs installed? You should have completely uninstalled these.

Diagnosing upgrade failures has taken days of iterative posts in the past.

You can try the MS Upgrade Assistant (Google) - simple.

Choosing NOT to accept updates as part of the upgrade simplifies it.

Upgrade to Windows 10

This is the best suggestion if you want to keep your programs and data.
The main downside is that it will mess with the partitions. You will have two Recovery partitions, one at the beginning of the drive and one after the C: partition (nowadays partitions has a different layout).

The best option but also the most time consuming is a clean install.
