Yes I've already started the process. Created saved states.

I really like easeus partition manager. Got to be one of my favourites.

I tried to adjust an external and it was not adjusting. Came to realise the drive was exfat.

Tried to format it in disk management and change from exfat to ntfs. I then went back easeus to adjust partition and it would not let me shrink size. Then realised it was because the drive is still exfat.

So yesterday tried with easeus partition to format the drive and change to NTFS.

It it still doing that since yesterday. 64% I'm at. Going to take many hours yet.

Great- now remember- before rushing in to configure everything- start a routine of disk imaging, and update your disk images periodically as you install things and configure things- you don't want to lose a lot of work. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + large enough external storage for disk image files.
I been using seagate discwizard for imaging. No problems so far.

    Umm, Acronis-based...

This guide, assuming it's current, very surprisingly shows it doesn't support incremental imaging, and no mention of differential imaging..

The formatting is complete. Thought it would take much longer.

I want to split partitions now.

The bottom partition (easeus partition) shows the fat32 and the other half ntfs. Not sure if the fat32 needs changing.

Disk management above that shows efi. I thought it would show fat32 as the bottom. Do i leave it as it is?

Not sure what you're showing. An EFI partition belongs to a UEFI installation. That typically consists of 4 partitions.

I was showing that the top was efi and other ntfs. Thought it was all going to be ntfs.

Same for the bottom picture shows exfat32 and the larger partition next to it being ntfs. Thought it was all going to be ntfs too.

If you say leave it as it is then i will do and begin what i aimed to do which was create a few partitions for file organising purposes.

You already have Windows installed, so yes, you're free as you say to use free space as you wish, shrink your Windows partition if you want to make room..

However the bottom disk in your screenshot is shown as removable... and looks as if it may have a Windows O/S partitions on it... check all your Windows partitions created by the clean install are on the one disk- and the one you intend to be your system disk.

Yes windows ten was installed on ssd. Totally different to this drive.

Is it true that most drives/externals have a small partition, like the one mine shows. Within that small partition will be linked to the o/s?

So this i will leave it as it is and just partition the main.

That small partition shown in post #33 is only used to boot the computer from that drive.

    No they don't.

An operating system has been installed to this drive, which is now external but may not always have been. Then again if you see two or more EFI System Partitions in disk management, only one is in use at a time.

If no drive adding ever occurs, the number of (EFI) System Partitions is limited to one. The number of (EFI) System Partitions cannot go down to zero.

If an EFI System Partition exists for unknown reasons, it never needs changing because an EFI System Partition never hurts anything. Then again an EFI System Partition not in use does not help anything either. But removing it will leave a gap that may not be easy to close on a 6 TB drive.

You gotta choose between exFAT and FAT32.
