KB5015878 unable to get past blue screen on black

I was offered the above update yesterday and allowed it to update.
When it finished it got to the the blue screen with black surround. I was offered a series of choices, namely user Welcome or Hello and link laptop and mobile phone. I don't remember the others.

The problem was there was nothing I could click on to allow me to access the options. It was as though the font size had been changed so that some of the text had been truncated, but I hadn't changed any of my font sizes for years.

For a while I was stumped as to how to get past this point and I eventually forced a reboot and I no longer get the blue screen.

Is this a known problem and is there a fix? My Winver is 21H2 (OS build 19044.1865).

Is it possible to access the options on the blue screen anyway else?

I should have taken a print screen of the blue screen but didn't think of it, but it is the same screen that appears after some updates have completed.

    Suggestions welcome please.

    Thank you

Hi, that's a Cumulative Update Preview update.. I never allow my PCs to receive preview updates.

Might be an option you wish to consider...

You can read about it and comments/experience of it following here:
    KB5015878 Windows 10 19042.1865, 19043.1865, 19044.1865

    - there's an article per update per build in the News section.

Your specs say Win 10 64 Build 1709 - is that correct?

    Hi Dalchina, thanks for response.

I have now updated my specs, sorry, I haven't been on here for a long time so had forgotten.

So, I am currently on 21H2 (OS Build 19044.1865).

In all honesty I confess to all that being above my head, and reading that it is best to keep my system up to date I have been doing so. And as for being a Preview version I ought to have paid more attention and not installed it.

So, would you suggest I uninstall it?

    Thanks

Hi, it's not clear at this point if it's installed- you can check your Update History.

If it is, probably all well and good. If not, and you interrupted its installation, it will be offered again.

If you have Home, you can try
How to stop receiving Windows 10 Insider Preview builds for PCs and tablets | Windows Central

If Pro, there are 2 relevant group policies you can set to block all preview updates.

It didn't show up in the View Update History but it did show in Uninstall programs list, so I have removed it.

I wasn't receiving downloads for Insider Preview anyway.

    Thank you for your help.

Please see discussion here on preview updates:
Windows Preview Updates - How to prevent download & install?

I've not seen anything to confirm it's possible to set the equivalent of the Group Policy in the registry (last post of above) for Home.

You are free to try 'Policy Plus' (free) which acts like the group policy editor but with a Find feature.

That's not a magic solution, just more convenient than using regedit.

Otherwise you can hide particular updates: a convenient way is to use a 3rd party tool.
