I thought that might be the case. Presumably you had win10 installed first, then installed win7 from within win10.
You probably need to use newer bcdboot than win 7 version in that scenario.

I did have win 10 installed first. Win 7 was added later in its own partition, then the machine was setup as a dual boot with win 10 as the default. Now when I restart the machine it does not even open the selection window, it goes straight to win 7.
I could not open the zip file from the Dell win 7, there never was a zip program installed, all the utility stuff was in the win 10 partition, so I copied the zip file to a 2009 Win 7 laptop that is too slow to catch a cold.
I then moved the 32bit bcd file over to the Dell, but it would not let me copy it into the C: system32 folder. It gave me an error code ox80070780: The File cannot be accessed by the system. I could not even delete the one that was in the system32 folder. I did notice that the bcd file that was there was dated 1/15/2022.

there are two folders in the zip

just plonk the x86 folder on d

    then in an admin cmd

change directory to x86 folder you just copied to d:

    cd /d d:\x86

    bcdboot c:\windows

by changing directory to the d:\x86 folder, cmd knows to run bcdboot.exe that inside the d:\x86 folder ( which is the win10 version). and not the bcdboot.exe that is in d:\windows\system32 (which is the win7 version).

I will try that, but I am more than a bit tied up right now, life and work get in the way now and again. I am dealing with a major roofing issue that has been going on since last October but is now coming to fruition. The first break I get, I'll try your suggestion. BTW, Thanks go to all for the help.

Taking a break from the roof, it is hot out there, I was browsing through one of my many storage drives and I found a Macrium Image for the Dell C drive where windows 10 is installed. The image was created a few weeks ago, and it must have been created before this problem occurred otherwise I could not have created it. Will it be of any use to us?
I also found a Belarc Advisor report dated 2 days after the Image was created and it shows a profile of the C Drive. Being two days later than the Image confirms that the image is for the Dell 7010 C Drive and nothing else.
