The Acer Aspire 780 should have a 6th or 7th gen intel CPU. Win 10 installation is simple and standard.
Where did you buy the Win 10 USB drive? Please don't tel me you bought on eBay.
I can guide you on the installation. Do you have a 8G USB drive (or bigger) that you can use?

Hi, If you are from Brazil, it's nice to take the time to advise me. I visited Rio in 2018, and loved it.
I found out today, while wrestling with win10, that it no longer wants to let us use the DVD writer. Thank goodness I still have three PCs, all working albeit no win 10. My oldest PC running Vista had been trouble free for the last six years without updates, which at times caused it to lock up, so I had to delete the offending "update". As the hackers think that no business uses Vista my daily scans show no infections-not even tracking or cookies or annoying pup up spams.
I also found that when I plug in my Seagate external HD, it affects my webmail. It took me some time to identify that problem.
Microsoft also did away with home group, perhaps because it worked.
In retrospect, I feel I made a bad mistake. I had ne problems at all with my two desk top PCs and my laptop, now I paid good money to buy three day's worth of misery, and grief. I should have look at this forum before doing this needless purchase.

@lewscaart, do you need help to do a Clean Install?
I suggest you build a up to date USB Win 10 22h2 installation drive using MCT so it can boot as Legacy or UEFI.
Open notepad and enter these 2 lines: (thanks to @hsehestedt)
[Channel]
Retail
Save the file as ei.cfg.
Copy this file to the \Sources folder of your Windows installation media.
To Install Win 10
Set Disk mode to AHCI, not RAID
Select OS mode = UEFI
Disable fast boot and secure boot (you can turn it on after installation)
Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.
As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives
During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) if you want to install as UEFI-GPT or select USB (name) if you want to install as Legacy-MBR.
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

My compliments.
At the risk of repeating myself, I should have looked at this forum, before deciding to "upgrade" to windows 10. There are a number of members, who are very familiar with windows 10' quirks , and ready to help those (like me) who need it.
Now that I somewhat familiar with the labyrinth of Windows tutorials, I will take a rest and leave the forum.

Just a note: I just tried my Win7 to get the Media Creation Tool for Win10 and it failed with an "unknown error" message. I'd guess that is no longer an option but I have saved the Win10 .iso if I ever need to create a new disc.Last edited by Berton; 30 Jan 2024 at 23:00.

Maybe an idea to consider:
If you want to take out a shiny new OS for a test drive without committing to it, you have a few options to consider in the future:
1) You could install it to a VM. That would allow you to easily test it and become familiar with it, while being able to remove it extremely easily when you are done.
2) Even without the Pro edition of Windows, you could install the new OS to a Virtual Hard Disk. One advantage of this is that this installation will have access to your real physical hardware rather than virtualized hardware. That would allow you to make sure that EVERYTHING works fine on your system, including all your drivers. Once again, this is EXTREMELY easy to dump when you are done with it.
I know that you had said that you would not even consider going to Windows 11, but by using either of the methods above, you can always at least familiarize yourself with it and kick it to the curb super easily when you are done with it all with zero risk.

I don't have to re-install win7 because (thank goodness)it is still on my 6year old Acer PC with an i7 CPU. Its replacement, another
Acer with Win 10 that was installed on an SSD(which since then Win10 lost), I finished installing, but it is still a work in progress.
I tried to send an email with two attached documents. I spent TWO HOURS while win 10 kept looking for the scanned documents, it still wasn't where win10 said it filed it "scanned documents". It wasn't found by file explorer.
I finally moved my scanner to my old Win 7 PC, and had everything done in 6 minutes. As far as I am concerned (and a great many other user agree), WINDOWS 10 was not an "improvement" but more like one step forward and five steps back.
