I never thought adding m.2 SSD's would be so complicated.

My Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 has 2 M.2 slots labelled

    M2A_CPU and M2B_SB

The RTX 3060 is installed in the PCIEX_16 slot

So where can/should I install the M.2 which will have the OS, and where to put the M.2 which will hold the data?

(Has this thread gone off topic or what?).

NVMe drives will not disable SATA ports. They operate on completely separate busses.

My 2nd m2b slot goes through the chipset as stated in online manual I just downloaded!

I have had the Aorus B450 Motherboard, I used the m.2 slot under the GPU for O.S & second slot for data but if you do speed test on them, I think they are both the same speed lanes so does not matter really!

I very sorry Navy I was thinking of the Aorus B450 Elite Chipset limitations not my X570 (Confused as they both have the same style of book & I could visualize in my mind the sata ports disabled)

I would never use a fast M.2 NVMe drive as a data drive.
