    upgrade windows 10

as i am short on time i went for the upgrade option.

thought i was going to get told everything had to go but to my surprise all seems good, apart from media centre that i was told was incompatible.

only problem is, ie does not connect nor does the windows store, but chrome works just fine..

so i will play today and try a fresh install later in the week.

I went the upgrade route as well, but IE 11 and Windows Store are working just fine for me. So is Comodo Dragon.

You upgraded your main OS? How is it so far, I'm scared to dive all the way in like that.

No, I used Macrium Reflect to restore an image to a spare SSD and am running it via a Thermaltake Black X e-sata dock. I disconnected both of the SSD's with my copies of W7 and W8, so no mishaps could happen! So far I'm liking it a lot. No real issues yet.

Cool, I have it on Hyper-V and I haven't even picked up any drivers and everything is perfect. I can change resolution too. I really like it so far too.

After the upgrade it set the screen to 1024x768, but I was able to adjust it as well.

I just went for it and ran the upgrade on my main pc, nero, paintshop pro, WinRAR, dvdfab etc etc, it all works fine and no need to install any prgms either lol.

it was my av that stopped ie and the store.

only 2 things that don't work, media centre for win 8.1 and gadgets ..

    Well, I got er done.

My G73 is now sporting a new suite.

Went well, but took about one hr to get all the upgrade in.

Every single program I had on there is working perfectly.

The only thing Device Manager is reporting is that my external
line for sound needs new drivers. Apart from that, it is a pretty
    sweet OS so far.

    Screenie from my desktop:

Even my background was saved. Very impressed so far.

I also did the upgrade -- but did that using a "copy" of Win8.1 that I cloned to a new drive.

And ... very glad I did it that way ... because I read on the MS forums that there is no way to go "back" to the prior WIN8.1 install short of complete clean reinstall!

The MS forums said this was clearly explained as a byproduct of the upgrade -- but I didn't see that anywhere.

Besides, the upgrade is working badly in that NONE of the Metro apps work properly -- they flash into a full-screen view, immediately minimize, and then present only blank screens/windows after that.

I posted on the MS forums, but if get no "fixes" for this, will probably start over with a clean install.

I had to run the upgrade using a copy of W7, because the option wasn't available when I was running W8.1 The only option in 8.1 was to download an .ISO file. But after do an in place upgrade from W7 to W10 TP using Windows Update everything seems to work just fine, including all the Metro Apps.
