Cannot Update Win 10 - Is My Nvidia Card at Fault?

I've been reading ad nauseam about the issues associated with updating Win 10 from 1909. I don't want to list everything I've done to this point, but just want to ask this Q because it is the only thing I've really found as a potential issue.

Microsoft Setup Diag is showing this:

Error: Found a device installation failure during device install phase.
    Device Installation failure detected!
    Device Description: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2488
    HardwareId: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2488&SUBSYS_88251043&REV_A1\4&2283f625&0&0019
    Inf Name: nv_dispi.inf
    Driver Version: 30.0.15.1295

Recommend you update the driver package or remove the device and drivers, and try again.

Most recent Nvidia drivers did not resolve the issue.

I uninstalled everything related to my RTX 3070 (as least I believe I did), and kept it off the internet (because as soon as I enable ethernet, Windows will update the driver from basic, even though updates have been turned off).

I re-ran updates with Windows Assistant with the basic vid driver, but no joy.

Am I going down a rabbit hole as to the nv_dispi.inf being the fault?

    I suppose you could:

Download the iso file for build 21H2.

    Disconnect the internet.
Uninstall Nvidia, even remove the card.

Perform the upgrade using the iso file.

    Then connect the internet.

That's strange, because the RTX 3070 is a current model.

I suppose you could try Display Driver Uninstaller (Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.5.1). It's best to run it from safe mode, but I have had good results from regular Windows.

If it's the machine in "My Computer", removing the graphics card is not an option. The 5600X has no iGPU.

Right, my 5600X does not have integrated vid.

Running DDU in safe made and then installing the ISO while the internet is dis-connected had no effects.

The RTX 3070 was removed (the previous RTX 2060 failed as well), and I installed a GTX 670 from another PC that was able to be updated, and the install failed with these two errors:

    1. Win 10 Setup:
    0xC1900101 - 0x30018 The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase....SYSREP_SPECIALIZE...

    2. SetupDiagResults
    a. Error: Found a device installation failure during device install phase.
    Device Installation failure detected!
    Device Description: *PNP0100 [NO_DRV_X]
    HardwareId: ACPI\PNP0100\4&dc53f1&0
    Inf Name: machine.inf
    Driver Version: 10.0.19041.1202

Recommend you update the driver package or remove the device and drivers, and try again.

    b. Error: Found a device installation failure during device install phase.
    Device Installation failure detected!
    Device Description: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2488
    HardwareId: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2488&SUBSYS_88251043&REV_A1\4&2283f625&0&0019
    Inf Name: nv_dispi.inf
    Driver Version: 30.0.14.7212

Recommend you update the driver package or remove the device and drivers, and try again.

In both instances it's saying .inf files.

Short of doing a totally clean install of windows....there still is no guaranty that my hardware/software is not going to continuously prevent Windows 10 from updating.

I'm open to any other suggestions...

heres the link to the Ten Forum page to download KB5014023, page one first post.

    KB5014023 Windows 10 19042.1741, 19043.1741, 19044.1741

    hope it helps.

It`s because you are running such an old version, how did you attempt to update to 21H2 ?
    ISO method ?
    Windows update ?

    How ?

i may have missed a step in my earlier post this KB5013942 i ran first which got me up to 19044.1706 then it went alright after that, i did that standalone as well

i thought the same as you cause every time i tried to update it would fail and on reboot my screen went all schizoid, looked like the matrix but after doing what i said in my last post it went through alright. before it succeeded

i also went into device manager and looked at all my drivers and tried to update each one manually with no driver updates available.

it was also suggested to check for a BIOS update that didnt make any difference either.

    g'day @AddRAM.

Okay, so this newb has a Q about windows updates. This process is normally automatic (getting and installing) and doesn't require much knowledge of versions/builds/KB articles as the OS does everything.

But since my build is so old, this is going to be a manual process, and I need some help figuring out how far back I need to go and how:

    10 Home
    V 1909
    installed 11/17/2020
    OS build: 18363.1556

Microsoft docs is showing for ver 1909 OS build 18363 has 19 Semi-Annual Channels after mine.

So do I need to get all those SACs for 1909 before going to the next ver 2004 (OS build 19041), and then the next ones etc?

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...se-information

Sorry for such a newb Q...
