    How to Disable Force-Update prompts?

    Hi,

I'm creating a customized installer for work purposes, of Windows 10 1607 Education x64.

I am integrating the latest cumulative update and the latest servicing stack update using DISM or NTLITE, downloaded directly from Windows Update catalog. This however results in a full-screen force-update prompt appearing, that goes like "A 3 GB update is needed, it will be downloaded soon" I can click "Okay" and "Maybe later".

I am worried that this update would eventually be downloaded and installed. I specifically want to use version 1607, and I do not want to upgrade further than that. I am aware of the security risks but this is an offline terminal where we need this version.
I know I can disable Windows Update service (I did) but I don't want this prompt to appear every time when I install the servicing stack and cumulative updates. Is there any way, any registry tweak or group policy tweak to defer this prompt? Much like the Windows 10/11 free upgrade offer could be declined, and made not to even appear, I'm looking for something similar, as this is just as intrusive. I hope you can come up with something!

    Thanks.

This might help with suppressing the Target Feature Update Version . . .

    I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your immediate reply @Paul Black! It is very helpful, and exactly what I am looking for. Right now I'm trying to find out if I can do this on 1607 as the article says 1803 or later. But still, this is exactly the setting I need, now I know its name: target feature update version! Thanks!

You won't get any new CU or SSU updates so there's nothing to do in the future.
Version 1607 support ended in 2018.

So there is no internet connection,
So there is no mechanism for updates to download,
So there's nothing to worry about at all.

Whilst you shoudn't be getting any routine service updates once your 1607 build has received all available updates to the date specified in that article, it is possible you may be offered a build upgrade. (You mention a large download).

Thus if you wished to disable Windows Update, you could. Two ways are described in two tenforums tutorials, and this topic is repeatedly discussed.

Trivial methods may well not prove reliable.
