Ok Word man I have a question for you regarding Cliff's ssd. I have been reading all your posts since day one. Cliff is going to move or reinstall Windows 10 unto his new ssd if I am understanding all this. Would think it should be a fresh install, but that's up to you two. So My question is, are you going to have Cliff make the SSD partition GPT instead of the basic MBR partition??
I hope that Cliff does not make his SSD partition GPT. but I'm not sure how you two are going to setup his new SSD I also don't understand why you keep trying to use the GPT partitions on the 2nd drive, unless he wants more than 4 partitions.

hanks so much. I appreciate you reading about our progress.
My ACER i5 5600 Desktop 1TB desktop came with GPT on it, and I believe it is still OK after 3 years use, and I have never seen a problem. and I have had a 1TB HDD Toshiba drive that I have had and used for backup for about 2 years. When I first used the Macrium software - I dd the CLONE from Acer HD to Toshiba drive, and it put the GPT over on the Toshiba. As you are aware - I do not know much about the hardware side of HD, Partitions and file system, so I am fumpling around and learning what may be done next. I have used only the MiniTool 9.1 and Macrium Reflect Trial so far. . . My windows 10 upgrade has never did any errors until I was trying to use MACRIUM to do an IMAGE copy to my Toshiba drive last night and it stopped the image copy because it got a READ ERROR. So I stopped the transfer process, and am on-hold now.
Thanks for your interest and any comments. Cliff M.

My question was about your SSD not on your 1tb drives Cliff. Maybe I misunderstood this WHOLE thread because I thought you were installing a new SSD and putting windows 10 on it. So far all I've seen lately is problems with your hard drives and nothing about this new SSD......so yes you guys are confusing me.....a tad.

I used Macrium Reflect Trial software last night to make a bootible DVD backup OSI file from my Windows 10 activated desktop. Then... I later booted my desktop with it. It seemed to boot very fast.
Thanks to each of your for your help and guidance... qll be safe. Cliff M.

Mike: Word Man can asnwer that, but I am sure he wants that to be NTFS, as I used Minitool to change the Toshiba from GPT to NTFS. I am at work now and do not have a copy of the minitool graphic showing it as ntfs. I hve not put my SSD in my desktop system yet. tks.. cliff M.

    OldMike:

Cliff has his Disk1 in his Acer All-in-1 upgraded to Windows 10 and activated (it's a 1TB Samsung HDD). The disk is already structured as GPT and he's happy with the way his system is currently running.

Cliff has a brand new Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB in hand and wants to remove the Samsung 1TB HDD from his Acer and replace it with the SSD. Note that we are taking as simple and straightforward approach as possible and not wanting to change too many things at once. Any change in disk structure (MBR versus GPT, eliminating unneeded partitions, clean install) can wait (as Cliff has agreed with me) until AFTER he gets his system running stable on the new SSD.

At this stage, I'm helping Cliff get a complete disk image of his 1TB Samsung HDD made with Macrium and stored on his external Toshiba 1TB USB HDD.

We are mostly working together offline with PMs and some on the phone to get things going that suit Cliff's particular needs.

Cliff has been posting some images in this thread because we can't use PMs to exchange that info (at least as far as I know - Media Gallery maybe? I'm letting Cliff decide that). I know there are other means by which we could exchange that information but I'm trying to help Cliff in the best way according to his own situation. I hope other forum members can bear with us and I'll be happy to answer any questions and am more than happy for any input from other members regarding where Cliff and I are at with this process (at least what you can make of it).

Once Cliff's current HDD has been imaged and the data secured, he and I will work through exactly how to get his CURRENTLY configured operating system and all his data and programs as they are now established onto the new SSD once he's physically installed it. There are different ways to do that (image restore, cloning, clean install, etc.) but I'll work with Cliff as I have been to help him decide how he wants to do it.

The main objective right now is to get his Disk 1 successfully imaged and to not monkey with his Disk 1, as it is, so that he has the same stable system on it as now when he physically removes the HDD and sets it nicely on a shelf in a static free bag or box so it can be pulled back out and reinstalled if things go sideways for Cliff while I'm working with him from half a country away.

I hope that answers your questions well enough for the time being.

Thanks for all for what you have commented and done. I know I have good bootible DVD made with a Macrium OSI file now...and I will try again later today to get Macrium Image copied over to my Toshiba 1TB drive.
Maybe today is a good day.. Tks Cliff M.

    Word Man and anyone...
Home again... and system appears to still be running good, and all the comments will be hear from now on as I am unable to post a local graphic only here, as local graphic are not allowing in the PM's area...
so thanks to all ....and if you get tried of reading... (then tks... and there is lots of other super reading material on ten-forums).
Today when I came home I first tried going to do a chkdsk /f c: command with elevated prompt and see Brinks Tutorial, and I was holding down the shift key and press the restart key.... and I got all the way to advanced options, the command prompt.... but from the command prompt screen. it says I am in version 10.0.10240
and after hitting returning 2 times and see the cursor moving, and inputting chkdsk /f C:
it then said "the type of file system is NTFS (and I press enter)
...and for many minutes the screen did not change..... so I finally hit the X on top right of the screen,.
...and then I asked for command prompt screen again and it appeared... did above again and got the same results.
so I finally told the computer to boot in Drive c: again and it did that OK. so now it is time 1650 in TX

On reboot I put my system, and file explorer screens up on this system and they are fine..
then I inputted my USB Toshiba drive and it appears to be fine.
I then did a system, system protection, system properties, and available drives are showing my
drive C (system) as being ON, and also showing my Drive F: as having "Macrium data 13 sept 2013 F: as bering OFF
I made a system Restore file and gave it a name and the system saved that name ok. now 5pm CST

Now one more thing: I loaded my MiniTool9.1 Free and here it what it says now. I believe that the minitool
is a very nice program. see graphic below...

You can see my windows 10 drive C: as Disk 1 and also disk 2 is showing my Toshiba 1TB drive in the .jpg file below which was save and named "Macrium Data and date".
    Attachment 37538
and so I am about ready to send this email.
Enough 4 now... thanks to all Cliff M. acmanten
