    I lost 12G of something

My 8.1 system partition had 48Gb+ of data on it. After installing Windows 10 and cleaning up, it's down to just a little more than 36Gb. After checking out all the installed programs and their settings, there's apparently nothing wrong. I even checked to make sure the drive hadn't been erroneously compressed. I'm at a loss. Nothing seems to be missing. Maybe it could have been a bloated pagefile, but I've historically kept the one on C:\ small (currently 16Mb min/50Mb max) with the big one in its own partition on a separate drive. Strange!

Did the system come with 8.1 or did you upgrade from 7? If so it would have had a Windows.old which can be quite large. Cleanup would have gotten rid of that perhaps.

Windows.old wasn't present in 8.1 at 48Gb. It formed when I installed 10, but I deleted it soon after. It's been quite a few years since I've done a clean install, even through various hardware changes. The original system goes back to XP, then 8.0 and 8.1, and finally 10. Never had Vista or 7 on it.
