Activate W10 with W11 product key?

I tried to configure a friend's new laptop that came with Win11. I hate it -- they changed everything for no reason whatsoever and I have no intention to bother with it.

If I install W10 on it, will I be able to activate it using the w11 product key? I found one MS support thread where a guy claims to have done just that, despite MS saying it's not possible:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/answers/q...ws-11-key.html

Is it possible that it does install, but there is nagging to activate thereafter?

If a Win10 license is required, what is the best source for it? Any idea how much it goes for?

    Thanks.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 licenses and product keys are EXACTLY THE SAME and 100% interchangeable. There is zero difference between the two. I am curious though...you say you are configuring a friend's new laptop and you find Windows 11 to be intolerable. Who are you to decide what the friend wants or is best for them?

Thank u for replying. Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding: I can take the key that came with the OEM W11 and enter it
    during W10 installation, right?

Even though that is my business, what makes you think I decided for her? Isn't it possible that this is what she wants?
She is not computer savvy, has been using W10 and is clueless about the diff between versions -- I customize everything for her.
To be able to do that I gotta know the system well and since I have no intention to bother with W11 -- W10 was forced on me for no reason whatsoever, that's enough for me. No more.

Yes, the OEM product key for Windows 11 will work exactly the same for the same edition of Windows 10 as it does for Windows 11.

Understood. Then simply add ExplorerPatcher - keeps Win11 but as a look-a-like Win10. Saves all the hassles of a re-install.

    Just try it first.

But, if you do decide to go down the W10 re-install path ..
    - image (Macrium Reflect) existing activated W11 installation just in acse things go pear-shaped
    - you shouldn't have to worry about a key anyway, if W11 is (was) activated, the installation of W10 should auto-activate accordingly.

Clearly @sgeneris knows what is best for his lady friend regarding computers.

You can clean install Windows 10, same version, Home or Pro, and it will auto activate.

Or... you can make Windows 11 just like Windows 10...

The START Menu is really the only serious difference... and it's not THAT different.

I remember the good old days when setting up Windows was just about the OS itself. Things have certainly changed, but it's good to see hMailServer keeping up with the times.

Win 11 is almost the same as Win 10 but with some improvements over Win 10 but has a different GUI. You can make Win 11 look like win 10 with Explorer Patcher or even with Win 7 with Classic Shell

Personally, I find Win 10 to be EXACTLY like Win 10!
