    Can't upgrade from 19042.1348 x64

Windows update shows the following update is available:

    2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5009543)

but every time I try it, it gets to 100% installing and then fails with:

"Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x8007000d)"

    There's also an optional update:

    2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5010793)

which also fails with "Error code: (0x8007000d)".

I read this and thought I'd try doing an in-place upgrade:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials (tenforums.com)

but it says "If you have Windows 10 version 20H2 installed, then it is required to have KB4586853 for build 19042.662 or higher installed to be able to do a repair install and keep everything."

So I checked and I don't have KB4586853, so I downloaded the x64 version from here:
    KB4586853 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.662 and v20H2 19042.662 Windows Update - Windows 10 Forums (tenforums.com)

but when I try to run it, it says "Windows Update Standalone Installer. The update is not applicable to your computer".

I tried the Servicing Stack Update from here too:
    KB4586864 Servicing Stack Update for Windows 10 v2004 and v20H2 Nov.10 Windows Update - Windows 10 Forums (tenforums.com)

but again it says "The update is not applicable to your computer", so I'm a bit stuck and wondered if anyone can help me fix this?

Had this similar with previous update(s). Found out (by chance) it was a previous (borked?) update blocking future updates.

Went back and uninstalled previous updates (one by one) and (re-)attempted update process.

IIRC, I removed it was attempt 3 (i.e. remove update, re-try, remove 2nd last update, retry, remove 3rd last update, retry ...). Bingo. All previous removed updates were re-installed as well as the current (blocked) update.

For this last process, I just let Windows do its own thing in its own time, no other usage, no user intervention, just let the update process run it's course. At some point, I got an indication that a re-boot was required, but it was obvious other updates were still in the process. Leave until ALL are done.

If your build number is 19042.1348, you can do the in-place upgrade without any problems. <- That applies to them.

If your build number is 19042.662 or below, you need to heed Brink's advice, otherwise you don't need to do anything about it because you're not affected by the in-place upgrade failure.

Ah thanks. I thought this build number still counted as 20H2, because the table at Find Windows 10 Version Number | Tutorials (tenforums.com) shows that the next build, 21H1, starts from 19043.928.
