New System Build, Bring Over Win10

Building a new system and plan on using my current SSD to boot into for the 1st time. So Windows will see the new hardware and my question is, will it lead me thru installing the new drivers?

    • Or do I just install it (the drivers) after bootup
    • Is there a specific order, chipset first...etc.
    • Is there any prep work I should do before moving the ssd into the new build?

After it is setup and running good I will move everything (OS and data) onto a new NVMe drive using Samsung's Data Migration tool as the older ssd and new NVMe are both Samsung products.

In my experience, Windows is pretty good at sorting out drivers for itself. Whenever I have moved an installed Windows from one machine to a completely different one, on the first boot up Windows says 'Getting ready'. Then it restarts with all the appropriate drivers installed for the new hardware. I have taken a drive from an AMD based system and put it into Intel based hardware with no issues.

These drivers are from the library of Microsoft supplied drivers included with Windows so they may not be the latest ones, but they should be good enough for everything to work. And then Windows Update may well install better drivers if they are available, usually the display driver will get updated.

Basically you should have little or no work to do for yourself. Windows seems capable of doing it all itself, same as it would if you were doing a clean install.

Be careful with that Samsung Data Migration software if you`ve never used it before.

    Although it is straight forward.

I don't understand the prior warning. I've used it several times myself without issue.

Well, I believe it was just a friendly tap on the shoulder by providing a link to a software tool I am going to use, in the interest of helping someone (me) to get it right.

    Good catch, jimmy .

I've used both Samsung Data Migration (to clone to a Samsung SSD) and currently use Samsung Magician (to monitor my Samsung SSD health and firmware) on multiple PCs - no issue.
