Isn't there also something that needs to be done with the boot file?
the existing bcd entry still points at the partition.

After an upgrade install ( win11)

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-1aa-goback.jpg

here is the windows.old folder

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-1-windows-old-after-upgrade.jpg

it is quite big

so lets check if it all works

first create a windows.new folder ( or any name you like )

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-2.create-windows-new.jpg

then select the windows namespace folders on the root of the partition

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-3-highlightexisting-namespace.jpg

MOVE them to the windows.new folder. So the partition now looks like this

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-4-after-moved-existing-namespace.jpg

then select the namespace folders that are in the windows.old folder

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-5-highlight-windows.old-namespace.jpg

MOVE them to the root of the partition so it looks like this

Bad RAM, reinstalled Windows, want to get old windows back, but can't.-6-after-moved_old_namespace.jpg

It booted up perfectly
