How To Install Windows 10 From A Bootable Thumb Drive

My Windows 10 64 bit Home Premium operating system was corrupted and cannot load the system.
I reset my computer and used a bootable thumb drive to operate the system.
However, I retained my folders and other data during the reset process.
At present, I have to have the thumb drive in my USB drive to use the computer.
I would like to install the OS on my pc from the thumb drive so that I can load the system without the thumb drive.
I would be grateful if the forumers can assist me in this respect.
Please use simple, step by step manner and as non-technical language as possible as I am not a techie.

Sounds like two different ideas.

1. You installed windows 10 on a USB stick but want to move ( transplant ) that install to a regular drive within the computer ?

Well you could download WIN10PE edition and Rufus. Use Rufus to write to a spare USB you have lying around and maybe the version of Macrium Reflect will be able to clone the Windows install to drive you do not mind using. Then you should be able to boot from that drive ( which is a copy of your USB bootable Windows 10 ) and reclaim leftover space that was not formatted.

2. You need to get an .ISO and use Rufus ( or ISOtoUSB ) to write the .ISO to the USB for which it would now be a bootable Windows install drive. When you start up the machine you select which device to boot up from which is the USB drive and go through the installation to the d estination folder, may it be another USB, or drive within the computer itself.

How had you performed the reset?
Wasn't Windows installed during the reset save files?
Did the computer not boot after the reset?

Was the disk drive tested?


Find a working computer and a flash drive that you can format.

Does the computer have multiple USB ports?
Are there multiple flash drives available?

Important files on the flash drive can be saved to another disk drive or the cloud.
A Windows 10 iso can be installed on a flash drive.
The iso can install Windows 10.
Then important files can be restored.

In the future you can make free backup images and restore images when needed.

You don't need to start from scratch. If the main problem is that you can't start the computer without the USB drive you can just reinstall the boot files on the main drive.

If you reset your computer the first time then repeat the process again. I would assume using a recover disk with options like
"Media Creation Tool" or "WIN10PE" or the official Windows 10 install ???

I honestly like how some people are able to setup their machines to be bootable via a thumb drive or secondary drive. In the computer forensics world you have people who have a raid where multiple drives are used to create one partition and without that specific drive the entire thing is unable to function. Nowadays we can use SD cards on top of chip to pull of the same method and have something like SSD storage.

However in your method anybody with enough knowledge could just come along and repair the problem with your computer and make access via making a new account even if it using the CMD built in, another machine, or via remote

I finally managed to download the operating system from the bootable usb drive from the setup available in the usb drive itself.
I can now boot my pc without the bootable thumb drive.
