New Laptop doesn't recognize old (used) SSD.
Hello,
The basics: Old Laptop (Win 10) died (won't turn on and "kills" any charger I plug into it. Probably something shorting).
New Laptop is Win 11, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 32 GB DDR4, 1 TB M.2 PCle NVMe SSD.
Old laptop had an M.2 PCle NVMe SSD as its boot drive. I took that out and would like to get the data off of it and on to the new laptop. I installed the old SSD in the new laptop, but the laptop doesn't recognize it at all. I've followed basic "how to install an SSD" tutorials recommending I use "Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions" or going to Device Manager and having it "Scan for new hardware," but nothing is working. It's like it doesn't physically exist. I've taken it out and put it back a few times to make sure the connection is good, but still nothing.
All I need to do is get the data off of it. Ideally, I'd like to wipe it and use it for storage, but my priority is accessing the darn thing to get the data out. I have several external drives I could transfer the data to if necessary (part of my thinking is maybe if I remove the SSD that came with new laptop and I leave the old SSD in, boot from that, transfer the data to an external drive, then remove it and reinstall the new SSD . . . but I don't know if that will work because I can't even get the drive to be seen, let alone accessed.)
Thanks.
