Window 10 Install corrupted after Win11 upgrade

After finding the new windows11 update was free and now avaliable I attempted to install this on my laptop. A core i7 quad 12Gb, discrete 2gb Gforce graphics card and upgraded to an SSD from a spinner. The Win11 upgrade falied on my levono ideapad 510

Apparenty this was due to not meeting the hardware requirements. Can't see why my machine would not meet the requirements its a great little box for what I need it for and should of defianitly run win 11 fine. But anways.

After the install attempt failed and it spat the dummy at me for not allowing the win 11 upgrade after a I found it has been released. I can no longer boot back to windows 10. The installer did not even fully start or installed anything. And I am now getting the windows 10 version of the blue screen of death stating that something with my hardware configuratio has changed.

Basically, not only did the win 11 install indicate I did not meet minium specs. Its seems to have also broken by beloved laptop,

    Any advise ?

Hi, I'm wondering, since it told you your laptop didn't meet the requirements (which are published in great detail down to the exact CPUs allowed- only 8th gen) how you managed to proceed with installing Win 11 - unless you used one of the methods widely published to circumvent the restriction.

(The restriction is imposed by Win 11's installer- Win 11 will, as you say, run on most PCs - probably almost all- Win 10 does).

Forgive the really obvious question: what precautions did you take before attempting the upgrade?

tenforums members endlessly advocate the routine and regular use of disk imaging (of at least all Windows' partitions) such that you can recover from bad situations without technical help - e.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

Boot from a Windows 10 USB Installation flash drive. When you get to the first setup screen asking for language, time and currency and keyboard, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt. You may need to do Shift + Fn + F10. In the command prompt run:

    Code:
    diskpart
    list vol
    exit
Note which drive letter your installed Windows has. It's probably C:. Change the drive letter in the below command to match the drive letter of your installed Windows:

    Code:
    DISM.exe /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions
Reboot your computer, see if that helps.

Mate. All I did was try to run the update installer. This is where it stated my machine did not meet the specs. After I cancelled out of it and rebooted I got the hardware had changed message. I would only expect this to happen after a windows 10 reinstall. This is why I am totally stumped that this has happened.

In regards to precautions I'm covered for that. I have a ISO created with sysprep so I can reimage fast. However, my image is a few months old now.

I would not have expected a win 11 install attempt would break anything

I got a new 14" Notebook a month ago with Win10 Pro, set up then updated to the latest Build. Then I was offered Win11 and got the Version Upgrade to Win11 Pro. Since it's been over 30 days I can't go back to Win10 except by a clean reinstall, don't consider that as broken but just part of the process. So far Win11 is doing fine, just some visual differences and system tools relocated from their previous settings, just have to find what I need at the time, it's much the same as when I started with MS-DOS 5 with Win3.1 running on it, change with each Version released.
