    Mbr to gpt

I am trying to install Windows 10 Pro on a blank hard drive.
When I try to install it it shows that my disk is in the MBR format and not the GPT format and can not be loaded.
How can I change the format from MBR to GPT?

    Thanks...

Using your install media, boot to a Command Prompt.

Tutorial: Open Command Prompt at Boot in Windows 10

At the command prompt, type Diskpart. You can use Diskpart to convert the disk from MBR to GPT.

    Hi,

Windows setup will automatically initialize your disk in GPT mode if you boot your system in UEFI mode. Try with CMS disabled first and secure boot enabled. then if it fails disable secure boot and try, then if it fails again, Enable CMS.

Remove all other HDD and run your installation with your Fixed Disk connected on Port 0

While you are there, check if your BIOS is up to date, as it is the best time to update it before doing your installation.

Only if the disk is truly blank and not been initialised. Once initialised as MBR Windows Setup is unable to change it to GPT, that's where Diskpart is needed.

No it isn't, not completely blank. Somehow it has previously been initialised with an MBR partition table.

Good point, I assumed the HD was out the box. But OP could confirm that easily.

It could have been fresh out of the box, but the OP may have made an earlier attempt to install and aborted it when they realised it was going to do an MBR install. That could well have initialised the disk as MBR. Nothing that can't be fixed using Diskpart

This is where a Partition Wizard Boot CD or USB stick comes in so handy.

    @junieman511 Welcome to the Forum

Hopefully you have used Diskpart to convert it to GPT and you`re now installing Windows

Let us know how you make out.

Define initialized. Windows setup will convert the disk to the format needed so long as there are no partitions defined on the disk.

    Reset BIOS or load defaults.
Set Disk mode to AHCI, not RAID
Select OS mode = UEFI or Select OS mode = other + UEFI (depends on BIOS).
Disable fast boot and secure boot (you can turn it on after installation)

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a new MB, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.
