Upgrade win 8.1 to win 10 home?

I had to install full retail version on my second computer tower and was wondering, if I can still upgrade back, to win 10 home. Thanks!

Yes, you can. Image the existing installation (in case you have to restore it), then just try it.

(Your post is a little confusing ... installed what/which full retail version on second computer ... is the same 8.x version still installed on your first computer (or does the "second" computer replace the "first")?

Sorry, I installed full version win 8.1 on second computer which had an older version of win 10 home. My main tower, has win 10 pro on it. Thanks!

The second, is mainly in case my main tower breaks down because of hardware failure etc.

Your second PC previously had Win 10 Home installed on it. That would have said it was activated with a digital license. As I understand what you are saying, you then clean installed Win 8.1 on it, wiping out its installed Win10.

That does not remove this PC's digital license for Win 10 Home, that is stored on Microsoft's activation servers and linked to the PC's hardware ID.

You could upgrade the installed W8.1 to Win 10 Home with an in-place upgrade, that would keep your installed apps and files. Or, if you're not bothered about keeping anything, you could clean install Win 10 Home, skipping entering a key if asked. Either way Windows will activate from the PC's existing digital license as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

When I installed the 8.1, the drive was not wiped it was installed with the windows 10 I think, because after the 8.1 install it showed old windows in my pc so I deleted the win 10. 8.1 is the only thing on the drive right now nothing else just the install. Also, the build is my own custom build.

Well, I had a win 10 iso on my main PC so, I put it on a flash drive then installed to my #2 PC. What I don't understand is, every time I go to put any version of Windows on the PC it doesn't wipe the disc the old version shows up as old Windows? both times I just deleted the old windows file. Also, the win. 10 I installed is dated 2018 so I guess I have a lot of updating to do. I try to do all updating during the hours of 2-8 am. due to internet caps.
