I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows 10 on a different folder than "c:\windows". Let's say I want to install it on c:\Win10 is that possible?
Also I would not like to have to use Microsoft Development Tools only the install USB.
Windows 10 is installed on C;\
...not on C:\Windows
It will look something like this (might have a 16MB partition too).

You can right click the C:\ partition, choose Properties, and name it whatever you want. I wouldn't try to change the drive letter (C) though.

Thanks but I don't want to change the partition label I would like to set another name for the Windows folder....
Of course, if you do it after installation you would have to also change the %windir% variable, and you would have to boot into the recovery environment since the Windows Folder is always used. I think most programs look for files by using variables like %windir%\System32\drivers, if %windir% is pointing to c:\win10 than all should be ok.
But I'm looking to change the c:\windows name during setup (installation) not after Windows is already installed.
I don't think it's possible to change the Windows installer like that, but @Kari or @Kyhi might be able to give you a better answer.
You would have to, pretty much... rewrite all of Windows to be able to do that.
Like... decompile it, recode most of it, then recompile it.
I haven't coded anything in 40 years (I'm still thinking in... Fortran), but I don't think you'll be able to do that, so easily.
I finally understand what you're trying to do. It sounds simple. Just re-declare %windir%.
But this is way beyond me.

ricardobohner, may I ask why do you want to have the windows folder with another name?
As Ghot already said, Windows folder is just one of many other folders that are part of the Windows OS.
It started like this: I was building a batch file that seaches for Windows instalations on all fixed drives. So it would look for C:\Windows, E:\Windows, F:\Windows...
Then I had this thought: "Wait a minute, what if the Windows folder is not called "windows", that would mean that there might be Windows installations on a PC that my batch file wouldn't find.
So I started a search to see if it is possible to give the Windows folder another name. I remember that it was possibe in the old days not sure Windows 98, XP.

I suppose that there could be a way of achieving that if you were to create aCustom ISO. That would mean initiallyMountingtheImage, and then TRYING to change EVERY single occurrence ofWindows[ and the Sub-Directories, Paths, Permissions, Relationships, etc ] . If you think about the hundreds of thousands of files that make up theImage, you can see where I am coming from,NOTto mention the days needed for ISO recreation and testing.
