Next step? "3. If ok, run an in-place upgrade repair install". How?
OMG...this tutorial gave me a headache. I ended up doing it the simpler way: Recovery> Restart and keep files> some tweaking after W10 installation. Now I am back to factory setting without losing any files or anything.
Not the same thing. A recovery you get the files from a inside your installation (that may be corrupted).
A Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade you get the files brand new from a iso.
I did not lose any installed apps except web WhatsApp which requires syncing with my phone's WhatsApp
I had to re-add mail accounts in Outlook. Many updates were installed automatically.
Powershell is now normal. I don't know the diff between PowerShell and cmd prompt. They are both working normally and identically.
SFC and chkdsk scans were normal.
And I think I am faster?
Good to hear you're all fixed up now.

I made a back-up to external disk and I am not sure I would know how to use it. Too many file parts. But it is comforting to know if necessary, I can just do it again...Recovery> Reset> keep files option. Like ABC.
Oh, I will stick with powershell, for sure. But I probably should keep cmd prompt in case powershell goes AWOL again.
Not sure what type of backup you made. Most of us here use and recommend Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
There are tutorials on YouTube that can help if you're interested in watching the process. Your PC would be exactly back to the way it was when you made the Macrium Reflect backup image.
