    - you may or may not have the same experience.

Please respond to my post #3 - my first question. Thanks.
Sorry, but I'm missing something. I looked at the linked page but not sure what you're referring to. The posts aren't numbered that I can see. Same screen name?

    1. From that linked page:
Windows 10 - Clean install on HP Compaq 8200 Elite Ultra Slim PC - Freezes and BSOD randomly
    Is that your PC?

    Freezes and BSOD randomly
    Can you see the problem?

Can you see I'm trying to illustrate for you a case where your PC model has problems running Win 10?

I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed here. I've made repeated attempts to download Macrium and think I'm doing everything right but it doesn't download for me.

I have no idea how to burn a disc so maybe I'm in over my head.

I'm also feeling doubts about whether I should try this with mention of the comment about maybe ending up with an unbootable computer.

I think I need to sleep on this and decide in the morning whether I should go ahead.

When you download Macrium it puts a file in your downloads folder, you have to click on that to download the Macrium Reflect 7 Free exe file. You then click on that to install Macrium 7.

My thoughts: If W7 is running fine for you, just keep using it

Thank you very much for your reply.

I agree with AddRAM - why bother with the possible risk. Keep it simple- stay with Win 7. I would guess you'd see no benefit, and there'd be a learning curve.

If you're not familiar with basic PC maintenance and use (upgrades, creating bootable disks, disk imaging and the like), leave well alone on this old PC.

That said, if you continue with Win 7, then note two valuable things:
    a. The routine and regular use of disk imaging (e.g. Macrium reflect - free).
    - that can save you if
    - your disk fails
    - your disk becomes irretrievably corrupt or unbootable
    - your system is infected

and acts as a full backup.

    So do pursue that.

    b. Disk checks and monitoring: Hard Disk Sentinel - routine checks on your disk can really help you. Excellent program.
Crystal Disk Info (free) can be set to automatically alert you of disk degradation.

    - I've looked in my Downloads file repeatedly and Macrium isn't there. I've gone through the process of downloading it repeatedly but it's just not happening.

-As far as Windows 7, I love the format and I'd stay with it forever. However, about two weeks ago it began exhibiting two symptoms 1) about two times out of three when I clicked on a web page, I would get a screen that says "You're not connected to a network". The Tereodo Tunnelling Adapter displays Code 10, but deleting and reinstalling it hasn't helped, and it's been checked and is running the correct driver, and 2) problems associated with using video functions...intermittently freezing, sometimes aborts the video and won't replay. The computer has been checked by an expert for malware and is clean. Basically. my diagnosis with the help of an expert came to a standstill, and it was suggested to me that I upgrade to Windows 10. I decided to do it, provided I can run Firefox as my browser. I looked into having a pro do the upgrade, but it's beyond my means as a low-income pensioner, so I'm reluctantly looking at doing it myself. However, I'm wondering if I'm in over my head.

    Hello @Kenneth7379,

Have you got ANYTHING in the Ribbon of Firefox that you need to click to ALLOW it to download?

I do NOT use Firefox, but I seem to remember something about this when I did use it.

    I hope this helps.

It looks like this, where are you saving it ?

But if your W7 install is screwed up. then there`s no reason to make an image of it.

Do you have any Restore Points to restore W7 to a point before you started having problems ?

I had to search online to even grasp what Ribbon meant, but I realize now you meant toolbar or task bar. I did find a download function listed in the menu which I've never needed to use before. It brought up a screen that said the Macrium download had failed. It's wanting me to delete my anti-virus and delete my firewall. I need to go at this with a clear head tomorrow....It's pretty late here. I had to delete my Avira anti--virus program and Malwarebytes before when my last expert was helping me, so I can back-track and figure out how to do that, but I'll need to look for a way to get rid of the firewall. Tomorrow morning....

No restore points that will help it. I did a System Restore with the one listed, and also tried to restore from two previous times when there was a Microsoft update or service pack being added. None of them helped. That's the point I asked my first expert.....

You should NEVER have to do ANYTHING like that when Downloading a file, they are there for YOUR Protection unless in EXTREME cases.

Have a look at this => Check the Downloads Panel for Blocked Downloads

    I hope this helps.
