    Upgrading Laptop

I am upgrading a HP 250 G6 Notebook PC. I have purchased a new ssd as follow:

    Crucial P5 1 TB CT1000P5SSD8 Internal Solid State Drive-up to 3400 MB/s (3D NAND, NVMe, PCIe, M.2, 2280SS) , Black

I have cloned it on Macrium Reflect which it said had completed.

After fitting it the laptop doesn't reboot. I notice the old M.2 SSD had 2 gaps in the row of connectors and the Kimgston has only 1.

Is it the correct SSD I've bought? I checked with the crucial scanner before purchase.

I have just connected the Kingston to my laptop and it says 16.9 Gb free of 223 Gb. Confused!

According to the specs here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product...c05478277#AbT4 Your system only supports SATA type M.2 drives. It doesn't mention NVME PCle type M.2 drives. I'm curious as to how you cloned it.

If you installed it into your laptop, I assume your laptop must have recognized the drive before the cloning process started. Did you have both drives in the computer when it wouldn't reboot?

Have yoy examined the Kinston drive to see if additional partitions, files, etc. were added?

    Edit - added following

A much more detailed description of the steps you took would be helpful.

I have an exterior Bay that I keep an M.2 SSD from a previous laptop in. I took that out and put the new one in, then attached it to the laptop to be updated and cloned its C drive through Macrium. I had previously done this once with another laptop some time ago.

The Samsung MZNLN256HMHQ is a SATA M.2 SSD. The Crucial Scanner was incorrect in recommended an NVME SSD. You need a SATA SSD.
