Win10 installation erro & win7 disc boot error.

Hello. Im trying to install an OS on an old machine to use as a HTPC or sorts.

    Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2.0.
    CPU: Phenom II 1100T 6core.
    GPU: generic radeon 2gb card.
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (4x4gb) 1333.
    PSU: Cooler Master 500w (non-modular).
    HDD: Maxtor DiamondMax 21 3.5" 7200 80gb.

The PC posts and I have been trying to install Windows 7 on it as i have only a genuine win7 home 64x dvd and key. which i was going to upgrade to Win10.

Unfortunately the pc does not boot from the dvd on either a USB DVD-ROM or SATA DVD-ROM. I burnt a USB Drive pen (16gb) and booted from that. windows 10 installation boots up but after roughly 5 minutes i get a 'data missing' error and the installation cancels.

    Any ideas would be welcome.

---------- I dont think Windows Version number is needed on this. sorry if it is.

Hi, was that created using the MS media creation tool?

Note that you can install Win 10 directly and use a valid Win 7 license to activate it. No need to install Win 7 first. tenforums tutorial available.

If you have a genuine W7 Home key, then you don't need to install W7 first. Install W10 Home, skipping entering a key when asked. When it can connect to the internet it will say it's not activated. Changing the installed key to your W7 Home one should activate it.

I would make another install USB, using the Media Creation Tool. If that fails with the same error then I'd look for a hardware fault. Re-seat the RAM, check the HDD's SMART data for disk errors, etc.

Yes, i tested it on 2 usb pens via the MS media creation tool. I understand i dont need to install 7 at all. boot dvd's was one of the boot options out of desperation. thank you for the reply.

Ok, thank you for the heads up about win10 upgrade/activation. Also, i have tried making a second usb win10 usb drive. this resulted in the same error. so yep. must be the hardware then.

How do you check HDD smart? thank you for the reply

    a. Boot your PC from a live boot disk (if you can- but in this case perhaps not) and run a suitable program.
    b. Remove drive from PC, connect it to another PC, and run a suitable program.

    Programs:
    Hard Disk Sentinel (excellent)
    Crystal Diskinfo (free, basic)

    c. Using tenforums tutorial (you are free to browse and search these): I found this for you:
