I put 64GB of RAM (2x32GB DDR4 2667) into my latest hardware refresh last month for around US$200.
As always, not that cheap in the UK, but still worth the one-off outlay. The rebuild is going to work out considerably cheaper than a new PC... I have more than enough PCs/laptops in the house already anyway!

Decided to get a local PC firm to do this for me... my PC building days are over unfortunately. Looks like we're going with an i9-11900F in the end...

Looks like this will be the build... anyone see any immediate issues here?

Case: Fractal Meshify C Mini Dark TG
    Motherboard: Asus Prime Z590M Plus
    CPU: Intel i9-11900F
RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX
GPU: nVidia GTX1070 8GB (retained from present PC)
Evo SSDs (retained from present PC)

I was going to ask about the CPU cooler, but I suppose that you intend to use the stock version that is included with the I9-11900F. I presume that's adequate for a non-overclocked system.

Are you getting the PC3200 Corsair DDR4? The plainest version of that in the US (newegg.com) is attractively priced.

I've never owned a micro ATX board, but I presume that its 5 SATA ports are enough for you.

I was going to recommend an AMD CPU instead, but it look like the Intel CPU may have a price/performance advantage. AMD beat Intel to market with PCI-E 4.0, but Intel has it now. (Looks like you'll have no PCI-E 40 devices, regardless.)

FWIW, I have a shortlist to build a new PC soon to replace my 11 year old desktop PC. Currently AMD offer more 'bang for the buck'. I would choose a X570S (no chipset fan) motherboard, a high end AMD Ryzen CPU like the 5900x with a minimum of 32 GB RAM. I would reuse my drives but buy a cost effective high performance NVME drive with good warranty support.

Compare the Intel & AMD CPU benchmarks & prices and you might conclude an AMD CPU is better value

That Intel CPU has a similar price / performance to the Ryzen 7 5800X but the Ryzen has better multithread performance. The Ryzen 9 5900X cost more but has a better price / performance than the former.

Depends on the benchmarks, I suppose. UserBenchmark: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs Intel Core i9-11900F The userbenchmark benches may be biased towards single threaded performance. For example, UserBenchmark: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs 9 5950X has the 5800X and 5950X as approximately equal, even though the 5950X has twice as many cores.

I don't know where to go for benches relevant to the OP's needs.

Top up the GTX 1070 to a 3070 and you are good to go buddy
