There are usually offers here: Guru3D.com

It is definitely not a site for piracy.

Whether the low-cost keys you can get from there will work, I can't guess. I've never tried a <$10 key. I have used a $40 Pro key, which activated just fine. Haven't checked to see whether MS has blacklisted it.
I just bought a W10 Pro key for £10 for a new build in a few months time! Guru3D links to the vipkeysale site and you then apply the code GURU25 for a 25% discount. Do people install Windows 10 International to use this key?

This key is for future use so I want to check it is valid before installing Windows 10. I tried the commonly used utility MicrosoftPIDChecker but this reports - Error: The specified key does not work with the loaded PKeyConfig file. Other retail Windows 10 keys I have are correctly reported by this utility.

Is there another way of check the validity of the key since the MicrosoftPIDChecker report is unclear? Beware this offer might be a con unless the key can be validated.

We know keys are available through the kind of sites you mention. Bryan at TechYes city has a key supplier he uses - you could ask him.

Some people might prefer to use an authorized ms seller like computeractive.

I dont know how you would test if it isnt recognized by your gizmo.

Did you try the other checker. I dont know what it does having never used it. Download PID Key Checker 3.0.0.0

    ...Description : Windows 7 Professional OEM:COA)
That is a Win7 key from a CoA sticker on an OEM pre-installed Win7 PC. These CoA keys were provided for reinstalling Win7 using the generic Microsoft install media and required online activation. They are only ever needed should you no longer have the OEM install media available. The OEM install would self-activate without the need to go online. The OEM media installed a different SLP key, requiring an OEM SLP marker in the bios for activation.

Provided it has never been used to clean-install Win7, a Win7 CoA key will activate W10. Generally it has been reported that it will not be accepted if you use it in a clean install. However, an unactivated clean install where you skip providing a key can then be activated by changing the key to a valid W7 CoA key. A valid W7 Pro CoA key can also be used to upgrade W10 Home to Pro.

Most members reporting on this are using a CoA key from one of their own machines, so of course they know its provenance

    Hi Mike

Thanks for the reference. I tend to be very cautious for deals of this sort, however; so far so good.

My total cost for a Win10 Pro key was about $18 Canadian after using their discount code.

Just for clarification, this key is only useful after a Clean Install using a PC with a previously activated version of Home, not for an upgrade.

    (snip)
Really? The machine wouldn't accept the new key?

If memory serves, a Home installation includes all the code needed for Pro. Inserting a Pro key activates those.

    Corrections will be welcome.
