    Hi NiceAndShy,

Well, I wouldn't recommend using an app on the USB to erase the HDD. As that will make your computer unusable, no drivers, no OS and nothing. If you are able to find the recovery media for your computer eg: Surface, Surface recovery media. Then you can boot from that and reinstall Windows 10.

Though it is just best to use the aka.ms/winup, media creation tool and follow the prompts to download into a USB. Then erase the primary one then refresh then click the unallocated drive to install Windows.

Check this tutorial, I am don't 100% sure that the Windows 7 key will work but it is most likely will. Make sure to back up everything, you could also use the recovery menu in windows recovery mode that you can press reset and remove everything.
There is no need for external links.
TF has a tutorial section which are tested and 100% safe.

    Thank you for your replies!

I just checked the Windows 7 Pro DVD that came with the laptop and it's a 32bit version of Windows which is fine, but the serial key isn't on the Windows 7 Pro DVD...?

Where would the serial key be located???
I'll need the serial key when I do a clean install of Windows...

Have a look in the battery department or on the bottom of the Laptop.

The laptop came with Windows 7 but I upgraded it to Windows 10 about 4 years ago when Microsoft offered a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I still have the Windows 7 DVD it came with.

If you upgraded Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home, the product key is:
    YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

If you upgraded Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro, the product key is:
    VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Although you don't really need any product key at all.

Once an upgrade to Windows 10 has been performed the licensing information should be on Microsoft servers.

In case you want to view the computer information today you can run these scripts:

    Hello,

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-fb3fc72b6665 could you please check if your Windows settings show your digital license is linked to your Microsoft Account?

If not, please link it. If you link it after you clean install Windows 10, please skip the license product key, after signing in with your Microsoft account, it should automatically link, if not please follow the steps for the troubleshoot hardware change, you should see your previous desktop name, you can click that.

You should already have the digital license if you did the free upgrade from 7 to 10 :)

    Hope this helps,

    Shawn

Having a Microsoft Account and having the digital license linked to it has nothing to do with activating the same edition of Windows 10 (Home or Pro) on the same computer that it was previously activated on. The digital license is stored on Microsoft Activation servers based on the unique hardware ID of the computer - not a Microsoft Account. If the same edition of Windows 10 is re-installed on the same computer, once the computer connects to the internet, the unique hardware ID of that computer and the edition of Windows 10 that is installed is sent to Microsoft Activation Servers. If a digital license matching the hardware ID and edition of Windows is found there, Windows 10 will activate itself, regardless of any user being logged in to a Microsoft Account.
