An unknown command-line option [DynamicUpdate] was specified

    Hello,

I don't have this problem but an old mate does.

I have tried to update his Windows 10 Pro on numerous occasions from v1906 to a more current version.

I have used Media Creation Tool from Microsoft to Upgrade, after going through the process of dowloading and installing stage. this message crops up ( An unknown command-line option [DynamicUpdate] was specified)

The pc came from Substation 33, I was informed they used an image software to install windows 10, We took the pc back to substation 33 with the problem we encountered...all they said, we dont update pc.s we just salvage and refurbish PC's and get them working.

I tried google searching , all too much, old mate is in his 70's and not computer savvy, I know a bit more but not a techy so it's got us stumped.

Can anyone help as how to get around this and is there a software that might be required to run?

    Thanks

Has anyone experienced this issue , if so, what did you do to fix it.

Windows 10 wont update unless the problem can be resolved.

Open to any help / suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hello @bondy99,

    As a atart . . .

[1] How old is the PC? I ask because if it is an OLD PC then it might NOT even be capable of running a newer version of Win 10 [ See the below to find the System Specifications if it is an OLD PC ].

[2] Do you know what type of Win 10 License it has? You can check that by using this Tutorial . . .

    > How to Determine if Windows License Type is OEM, Retail, or Volume

[3] As v1906 is several versions behind, it might be best to Backup ALL the Data and perform a Clean Install, obviously create a System Image FIRST. Is that an option?

     System Specifications

    > How to Fill in your System Specs at Ten Forums.

To make this process easier for you, there is an Automated method that you can use by clicking the Download button at the top of the Tutorial. It contains a standalone .exe file delivered in a .zip file. You just need to Unzip the file and Run SystemInfo.exe. Please note that this file does NOT save ANYTHING to your computer.

You might also find this Tutorial useful => Collecting System Specifications in Windows

    I hope this helps.

Paul Black, much appreciate your help on this. I'll have to go back and see old mates pc this week. It's only 3 months old , came from a computer recycling refurbishing place. I suspect he does not have a second hard drive for a System image if I can get it to update.

I've downloaded the .exe file as suggested. Hopefully this week I'll be able to post up the system specs.

I assume that when you say that it is only 3 months old that you mean that it was purchased 3 months ago?

It could of course be a 10 year old [ for example ] computer that has been refurbished and installed with v1906 because they knew that it would NOT run a newer, more upto date Win 10 version [ not very well at least ] because of the specifications.

    I hope this helps.

Yes, that's correct. His previous PC had a lot of problems, it was so bad he gave it to the computer recyclers. He is in his 70's and not computer savvy, very short memory retention, many times I showed him how to navigate to find pictures on his PC and then to name the photo for ease of identification.. Slow learning curve for old mate.

Ok, Here is the latest situation with old mate's pc.
As he is not a member of Windows 10 and I could not use his pc for the purpose of uploading his device details so I done the follwing:-

I open the command prompt and typed in slmg -dli
Windows Script Host ...Windows (R) Professional edition
Description: Windows (R) Operating System, OEM_DM channel
    Partial Product Key: WFG6P
    Licence Status: Licensed.

    Ran SystemInfo

    Boot Device: \Device\Harddisk Volume 1

I ran windows repair from Windows Tweaking. Message said Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repair them.

I then went to windows update. Message seen was updates available.

    Updates Failed
Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H1 - Error 0x80070003

In red print under Windows Update this was seen *Some settings are managed by your organisation.
In green writing below that it read View configured update policies.

I no longer have the DynamicUpdate writing, just error 0x8007003

I have no idea what is causing this nor why it wont update correctly.

As mentioned earlier, the pc was purchased from Substation 33 about 3 months ago,

    Regards,
    Bondy

Still does not want to install. it can download 100% then gets to about 45% installing then no go. gets error message as per previous post.

Should old friend take the pc back to the people (SubStation 33) where he purchased from to get them to fix it?

Paul Black, Still no joy at resolving the problem.

Using the Upgrade This PC option from the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to upgrade from Windows 7 professional 64bit) to Windows 10 professional, I got the same windows popup message. I tried running SFC /scannow & chkdsk, disabling all startup and non-microsoft services, disabling malware and antivirus protection, running Tweaking.com’s Windows repair and running the windows 10 upgrade as administrator, all with no luck. I then decided to create a USB media to see if that would fare better. What it did was to show up the problem that was causing the online upgrade to fail. The Notebook being upgraded was am HP ProBook 470 G2 and when running the upgrade from the USB, it showed the HP Drive Encryption app was incompatible and must be uninstalled to continue. The HP Drive Encryption uninstall requests a restart when finished, I selected Restart Later so that I could exit the Windows 10 upgrade but it left the Windows 10 Upgrade hung so after 15 min, I killed the three setup processes, restarted the PC and restarted the setup from the USB. This time it went through and completed successfully.

    Hi James,

I tried couple of times using the Media Creation Tool, also from a USB, it will download no problem but when it comes to installing, nope, sometimes gets to 45% and another occassion 67% and no further , comes back with failed to update.

I am now thinking of doing a clean install on old fella's pc. Maybe the clean install will resolve it.
