The above should fix your Win 7 - assuming your system partition is intact. But I think the logs suggest there are problems. Trying to fix a broken O/S so as to upgrade it can be a very tough and time-consuming task with no certain outcome.

Ok well updated 7 and getting different errors. Still got bootloader issues but I'm getting this "DUSetup: Error on downloading SetupDU Payload: [0x80072EFE]" every time. Weird because I'm on a stable DSL connection that is hardwired to the router.

Ok, bit the bullet and I'm trying to just do a clean install. However, after converting the SSD over to gpt mode I get this "wishes cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.". Kind of at a loss now as to what to do. Board is an ASRock 970 extreme 3 with the latest bios so it should work. There some seeing I need to do some place?

If you are booting the installation media and using windows setup.exe, you need to boot it in efi mode so it can install to gpt disk

I converted it using Aomei partition assist. As far as booting into efi mode, how do I know if I'm doing that?

If you are using the one time boot menu, it should show your usb it will say usb efi (or words to that effect) as one of the options.

The one time boot key is often f12. Might be different on your motherbpoard.

I just checked, it is F11 on your mobo

OK....I was able to finally get it to install, I had to set the bios to Legacy and it allowed it to start. The problem is that now when I plug in my mirrored raid drives it asks to format them. Going through the driver install to hopefully get them working. Also I've noticed that Macrium won't start, despite being the only program installed. After that I'm going to use PCMover. Most if not everything was stored on the mirrored RAID-1 drive that I have. I need to get that going.

    Hi there
I think some quite old machines have problems beyond W10 1809. Problem might be the BIOS doesn't support NTFS boot or boot when ISO etc > around 4.5 GB. There's nothing in the EFI specifications that should prevent this - but who know how manufactures implement their mobo bioses.

    Cheers

Yeah I was able to use a USB to boot and install. It's going ok now, but I was unable to upgrade 7. I find that really, really annoying that MS didn't provide a migration tool the way that they did in 7. I'm looking at my partitions and I want to change things around a little, there's an Ubuntu boot partition between the Win10 NTFS partition and 250gb of free space. Need to get that moved.

Ok. I was able to do this, but my profile is messed up. My user account was not on the drive that I imaged, but on the much larger drive. I can see the user account there. Is there a simple way to just point the profile that is on the local machine to this folder? It says I don't have permissions, likely b/c windows thinks it's a different ID.
