New SSD, Attempting new clean install via usb Nothing Works

New SSD, Attempting new clean install via usb Nothing Works

Embarrassed to say I have been working on this problem for 6 weeks!! I need help please.

I was on windows 8.1 with normal hard drive Dell Inspiron 3847, 16 gb memory and all FINE, Then Chrome started getting very slow. I uninstalled Chrome and put it back in, things would work for a day. Lots of freezes started happening. I upgraded to windows 10, loads of high cpu and disk percentages, reset windows 10 a few times, would work for a day but when it slept or hibernated, could never recover, froze, repair, system restore, etc. Days I would be down trying to get back up just from sleeping or hibernation. Tried to go back o 8.1, wouldn't boot, all kind of errors. Tried all resolutions, No Go. Dow with dvd's, loaded other programs to fix mbr, no help, didn't work, formatted my disk, installed windows 10, fail. Started hearing my disk make noise, so I bought a new SSD. I left hard drive in case but took off the power and ?sata cable and transferred them to the new samsung evo ssd.

I booted Dell, pressed f2 or f12 and chose usb as first boot, put usb with windows 10 made from media creation tool and freezing on dell screen, or freezing on 4 blue squares from Windows, or going black and blue screen showing error code and press options for uefi, etc. I tried all those options, and still cannot put a new windows copy onto this desktop. Tried 3 different bootable usb's

    Hi
    Welcome to the site
I regret to say that it has the signs of a motherboard fault - although the hard drive making a noise, could have been a separate issue
OR if you are lucky it is a ram fault or a PSU fault
    https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/a...uide_en-us.pdf

I recommend you run memtest for the ram
    as a first step
MemTest86 - Official Site of the x86 and ARM Memory Testing Tool

how to make the bootable usb

    MemTest86 - Creating a MemTest86 boot disk in Windows
    and see this
MemTest86 - Booting v5 or later in UEFI
presuming your dell is UEFI firmware capable

    On the third image down
    MemTest86 - Screenshots

you will see the test running you need to run TWO complete passes each pass consisting of 11- 13 tests
on the image it shows the pass at 41% and test 5 at 12%
so you need the pass at 100% and then allow it to run again
if you cannot make the USBG on that Dell you will have to use another computer

    I should have included
IF your Dell is NOT UEFI firmware you will need to use V4 of memtest
    MemTest86 - Download now!

I had memory tested my memory early on in the 6 weeks and it passed. I had checkdisk repair and it found nothing.
I called a shop for repairs. They said it sounded like it needed a hard drive (and I didn't tell him about the noise).
I put in the ssd, unhooked the other hard drive and can't install windows through the usb.
I know there is no working windows installations on there now on the unplugged regular hard drive or on the brand new ssd.
I know there is no mbr. so I can't imagine how to "find" the ssd and install there.
    Please help.
I am trying to save money.

I think the problem is here somehow.
"I put in the ssd, unhooked the other hard drive and can't install windows through the usb."

I think it is looking for windows on the hdd that is unhooked.

How do I tell it there is no more hdd since I can't get into windows or command prompt?

One of the purposes of booting from a USB flash drive to install Windows is to install Windows on a computer that does not have any OS on it at all to begin with. The fact that you can't get to the first setup window when booting from the USB flash drive:

indicates that something else is wrong. Where are you plugging the USB flash drive into? Try plugging it into a black USB 2.0 port directly off the motherboard (back of the computer). Sometimes USB 3.0 (blue) ports can cause issues with trying to boot from a USB flash drive.

On BIOS, disable fast boot and secure boot (you can turn it on after installation)

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a new MB, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

I am a novice so please bare with me. I have usb ports in front and back that I tried including the blue one. I keep getting the blue screen
    RECOVERY
Your pc device needs to be repaired.
A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.
    error code 0xc000000f

    then it shuts off.

I don't see fast start up as an option anywhere.
    I have secure boot disable
    usb boot support enabled
    boot mode uefi
    1st boot usb storage
    2nd boot usb floppy
    3rd boot internal odd device
    4th uefi windows
PS I switched 2 - 4 around but always kept 1st the same, no luck.

The only sata power I have is the one that I moved from the hdd to the ssd.

This recommendation --You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
never get to here -Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.

    I don't see those options.

    I see usb floppy device
    uefi windows boot manager
    usb storage device
    onboard nic device
    disabled

Those are my options. What order do I put them in?

    - - - Updated - - -

now I see something new, no boot device available
    sata 0 none
    sata 1 none
    sata 2:installed
    sata 3 none

strike the f1 key to retry boot, f2 to run the setup utility.
That is what i get when I take the usb out and start.
usb in and start gave me the 000000f

Update. I kept restarting my computer with that USB in probably 30 plus times. Finally it took. And I got the installation window for Windows 10. When I got to where do I want to install Windows, I saw several partitions there. Most of them were all from the hard drive that is not hooked up. There were many partitions on there because I kept downloading and running various programs to fix my startup and they would create their own partitions. So I just found the one that had 990 some gigabytes which I knew was my new Samsung Evo SSD and I chose there to install it.

After it went through all the check marks it came up with this error that Windows could not be installed.
Windows could not update the boot configuration is the error.

    Please help. Thank you.

    1) Only the target drive should be hooked up

    2) Delete all partitions on the target drive until it shows only unallocated space

    3) Click next

Do you want to do a Legacy/MBR install or a UEFI/GPT install ?

You must choose the right option.

Your BIOS is probably set to boot Windows as UEFI and you are probably booting the USB drive as Legacy. Launch the boot menu during POST (F12) and select USB UEFI (Name)

I suppose that the Win 10 USB installation drive was created with MCT and not by Rufus. Please confirm.

It was not created by rufus. I kept restarting my computer over and over and trying different usb holes and finally it downloaded and installed in an unallocated partition that I hit new and chose 247GB. It ran all the way through.

Now I have a new error, same blue screen, only now it says ==
file windows system32 config system error code 0000185

    system registry file is missing

Thank you for your help. PS This is a brand new samsung evo ssd that I just put in yesterday and tried to load windows.
I created the usb drives from 2 different computers. I downloaded to 3 usb drives and tried them all during this process. Used media creation tool to usb.

It seems like you have a hardware problem. Could be RAM, motherboard, SSD drive..... I would start by taking EVERYTHING apart, blowing all the connectors, sockets, fans and heatsinks with a can of compressed air. Put it all back together.
