Laptop Win10 64 Pro. Pulling SSD. Adding M2 OS SSD & 2.5 Storage SSD

    I have a new zTecpc delivered with a 1TB SSD by mistake, I asked for a 512GB M.2 OS SSD & 2.5" 1TB storage SSD.

It came with a clean installation of Win10 64bit Pro and the clean install is on a USB.

I contacted them with the issue and got the green light to remove the 1TB and replace it with the drives I want.

I am not formatting the pulled SSD. I want to pull it as is in case there is an issue installing the new drives.

Do I need to do anything Win10 wise as far as deactivation or something?

    Win 10 Pro 64 Bit Version 20H2
    Experience feature pack 120.2212.3530.0

    Thanks

Hi, replacing the drives should have no impact on activation, (nor should RAM change) which is easier if linked to your MS live id, assuming you intend a clean install on the SSD.

    Unsure what
the clean install is on a USB.
means- I assume this is a Win 10 bootable installation disk.

Tutorials on activation available which you may find informative and address your question.
Also on creating installation disks and clean installing Win 10.

Before you remove the current SSD, you might want to backup the device drivers from Windows 10 to the USB flash drive:

When you clean install, if all is well, nothing more to do. Some PCs require specific drivers or utilities for special functions e.g. backlit keyboards. Such things can often be downloaded from the manufacturer's site.

and the clean install is on a USB
Do you mean they also included installation media on a usb stick?

If so, it might be best to use that.

Contrary to what some people think, it is not always easy to install vanilla win10 on the most recent machines.

Yes I just got it up and running with the clean install USB stick.

Windows on the Sabrent ROCKET MVMe PCIe M.2 2280 512GB SSD.
I created a simple volume on the 2.5" Samsung 870 EVO SATA 1TB drive naming it D:\Data Storage.

How do I get it to by default to use it for said? My docs ,pics, and so on?
