I've never seen anything like this in 46 years. But that is totally irrelevant. We didn't have software and computers like we have now.

The facts are that many others have had exactly this problem with updates beyond 1909 with these AMD A9 dual core processors. The errors they have catalogued match the error messages I have got.

Here is one thread Unsolved windows 10 2004 update and now 20H2 error 0xC1900101 - Microsoft Community

Please can we end this now?

That's a completely different cause- the error number is typical of a driver-delated incompatibility.

Have you tried posting on a HP forum in the hope someone with a similar PC to yours can help?

I have now seen several references to that AMD cpu problem and they had the same experience and error message as I had had.

If those are all HP devices then I suggest you refer to HP.

The symptoms in the link seem entirely different from what you're seeing. No scrambled display on booting from a USB stick.

It's possible that there is no help for you, but it's interesting. No one is demanding that you keep participating in this thread, though.

There is one thing mentioned in that thread I don't recall you trying. Does your computer have the latest BIOS? If not update the BIOS and try to install Windows 10 again.

Of course if you want to give up that is up to you.

This is not my computer. It belongs to a friend. She is happy to carry on using 1909 till she replaces it.

I have wasted 3 days with it and have given up. It also has a crook battery!

I was trying to redo the BIOS but, to add to my frustration, HP didn't recognise the model number, or serial number, recorded on the bottom of the computer. And who wants to try a BIOS update if you are not totally sure of using the right one? The HP program couldn't look into this computer to work it out itself as it should be able to do. It just kept spinning the 4 squares for over an hour in spite of it saying it would take up to 3 min.

I won't answer any more as I am trying to get my life back!

Are you sure about that? That goes to support for the HP 15-bw096au. The OP has an HP 15-bw049AU.
